Dining Room Food Selections
The Review
Late boarding the ship due to the late arrival of the ship because of fog. Hey,this is Galveston in winter. Our aft cabin was not ready until 5. When I wiped the counters and tables, there was plenty of dust. Bed was the best we've had on a cruise. Two chairs, a table, and lounge on the balcony. Dining Room is nicely laid out but the food was always cold and our group of 11 did not like the selections. This was our 19th cruise and the worst food. I eat a wide variety of food even escargot and frogs legs which I had 1 night each. They were good but not too many choices for appetizers on the other nights. Ken, the singing Maitre D', and the dancing "disco" waiters, especially Jonathon, added fun to our evenings at the early seating of 6pm. Lido Aft Deli was great for sandwiches and chips for lunch but towards the end of the cruise the lines were very long. Salads were great in the Lido. Pizza for a snack at night on the Lido deck was also great. There were no lines when we went for pizza. Room service was always on time for breakfast. The room service menu is limited. We had cereal, fruit, juice and sweet rolls daily. Coffee was great, hot, too. As on most cruise ships, it was difficult to find an empty lounge especially at the pool. Lots of towels on the lounges and when asked, the crew would remove the towels if the lounges had been vacant for a while. Serenity deck was great if you could find a lounge. Salads at the bar and Bloody Marys were excellent on Serenity. The Italian Specialty restaurant was EXCELLENT. Make sure you book early. Georgiana was our waitress, she was great and lots of fun, also patient with our family who were contantly laughing and joking. Wish we ate there everynight. The Steakhouse has seating for only 86....make sure you book early, prior to the cruise. We could not get a reservation. The slide was open on the last day at sea only. The waterpark opened while we were in port and on the last day at sea. The 3 children and some adults in our group loved it. They were disappointed it wasn't open everyday. The Kids Club was good and had lots of activities. 1,150 children on our cruise but they were well behaved. Entertainment was so - so. Magician, eh. Comedian, ok. Difficult to find seats for the shows in the theater if you did not get there early. There were only 3 to 4 openings for wheelchair access, 1 person in our group is in a wheelchair. Music outside the Casino most nights was EXCELLENT. The group sounded better than Journey....really a must see. Red Frog Pub was a nice place to stop and meet with the group. Bartenders were friendly. Rum Punch drink, $20 with 9 shots of rum, best value on the ship. Sip it slowly and share, you are not driving. We booked 2 out of 3 excursions on our own. We booked the Cozumel Dolphin Discovery through the ship since there are no discounts through the island marketing companies. If you are on Carnival you can only book this excursion with Carnival. It includes roundtrip taxi, entry to Eco Park, and the Dolphin Discovery. Expensive but you only do it once. Observers can go for $25.00, which includes the taxi, entry, and enable you to watch your group in the Dolphin area. The tropical gardens and the sea lion show are great. Get to the park early as the chairs go quickly on the beach. There is a sea wall with steps down to the water, you can not just walk right out to the water. Debarkation was late, again due to fog. We docked at 11:30am. Lunch was available in the Lido. We left the ship at 1:30pm but the luggage was not out until 3:30. If you have to catch a flight out of Houston make sure you debark with the group carrying their own bags. Carry your bags off. We were out of the terminal by 4 but we had our car in the lot and did not have to catch a flight. Disabled Vets get free parking in parking lot B. There were few taxis available for the people who needed them since the cruisers for the next departure were arriving later than usual.

Ship was BIG. In order to get to the theater and forward area after dinner you must go up a deck or 2 so be ready to wait for an elevator or climb the stairs.
Dining and Food:
Food selections were minimal in the dining room. Service was good but the food was cold. Italian Specialty restaurant very good.
