Asia cruise questions we answer every day
Do I need a visa for an Asia cruise?
US passport holders need no visa for Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand or Malaysia on cruise visits. Vietnam, Cambodia and mainland China require one; most lines arrange a cruise visa for guests for a fee, and we tell you exactly what each sailing needs when you book. Your passport must be valid six months past your return.
How long are the flights, and when should I arrive?
Twelve to seventeen hours from the US West Coast, and you lose a day crossing the date line. Arrive two nights before sailing; Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong are each worth the time, and jet lag is easier on land.
Japan or Southeast Asia for a first time?
Japan if you love food, cities, gardens and clean efficiency; Southeast Asia if you want warm water, temples, markets and a lower price per night. Both are easy from the ship; Japan is cooler and more walkable.
Big ship or small ship in Asia?
Big ships give you the best price and great family facilities on 7 to 10 night Japan and Singapore loops. Viking, Oceania, Regent and Silversea stay overnight in the ports that deserve it, which matters most in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City and Kyoto.
Are taxes and fees included in the prices here?
Yes. Every price on this page includes cruise fare, taxes, fees and port expenses. Flights, hotels, gratuities, drinks packages and excursions are extra unless the line’s offer says otherwise.
What do the SmartCruiser picks mean?
They are sailings where booking through SmartCruiser gets you something you do not get booking direct: instant savings, bonus onboard credit, a Special SmartCruiser rate we hold on that sailing, or a senior, resident or police & fire fare that beats the best public price.
