When to go

Port Canaveral follows the school calendar more than any port in America. Sail when Orlando is quiet and the ships are too.

January to FebruaryCool, dry and busy around Presidents’ week; the rest of January and February is good value.
March to AprilSpring break runs the whole month of March and into Easter; the highest prices of the year on the family ships.
MayParks are quieter, pools are warm, and fares drop before school lets out. The best month here.
June to AugustPeak family season at sea and in Orlando. Book early; the Disney and Icon-class ships fill a year out.
September to DecemberHurricane season brings the lowest fares through October. Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks are peak again.

Port Canaveral cruise questions we answer every day

How much is parking at Port Canaveral?

The port’s own garages and lots at each terminal charge $20 a day plus tax, paid by credit card on arrival, and both the arrival and departure days count as full days, so a 7 night cruise runs about $170. Off-site lots on Astronaut Boulevard and George King Boulevard charge roughly $8 to $12 a day with a shuttle, and many Cocoa Beach hotels include a week of parking with a one-night stay.

How do I get from Orlando airport to the ship?

Port Canaveral is 45 miles east of Orlando International on the Beachline (SR 528), about 45 minutes to an hour. Shared shuttles typically run about $25 to $40 a person each way, private cars about $100 to $150, and the cruise lines sell transfers in roughly the $35 to $45 range. Disney and Royal Caribbean also run transfers from the Orlando resort hotels.

Can we do the parks and the cruise in one trip?

That is the whole point of this port. The usual pattern is parks first, then a 3 or 4 night cruise to finish, so you end on sea days rather than queues. Allow one transfer day between the two and stay in Cocoa Beach the night before you sail. We book the park tickets, the hotel and the transfer with the cruise.

Do I need a passport to cruise from Port Canaveral?

On a closed-loop cruise that starts and ends in Port Canaveral, US citizens can sail with a government photo ID and an original or certified birth certificate; children under 16 need only the birth certificate. We still recommend passports for the whole family, since you cannot fly home from the Bahamas or the Caribbean without one.

Are taxes and fees included in the prices here?

Yes. Every price on this page includes cruise fare, taxes, fees and port expenses, per person, double occupancy. Gratuities, drinks packages, excursions and parking are extra.

Which terminal does my ship use?

Royal Caribbean sails from Terminal 1 (and Terminal 5 on busy days), Carnival from Terminals 3 and 6, Princess from Terminal 6, MSC and Norwegian from Terminal 10, and Disney from Terminals 8 and 10. Your documents name the terminal and the port signs are good. Boarding opens about 11 am and ships sail between 3 and 5 pm; pick a mid-window arrival time in the cruise line app.
