Cruises from San Diego

Walk from the Gaslamp to the gangway. Cabo is next.

San Diego’s B Street Pier sits downtown, ten minutes from the airport and a short walk from the Gaslamp Quarter, and it sends ships to the Mexican Riviera, Baja and the Sea of Cortez, Hawaii, the Pacific coast and the Panama Canal on Holland America, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Disney, with Norwegian, MSC, Virgin and the luxury lines passing through on repositionings. SmartCruiser shows every sailing leaving San Diego from every line, prices them with taxes and fees included, and puts the sailings with SmartCruiser bonus onboard credit and better-than-public fares at the top.

Three ways to sail from San Diego

Pick the trip and the list filters itself; everything leaves from the same downtown pier.

Most popular

Mexican Riviera, 7 nights

  • Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, with a shorter sea crossing than from LA
  • Holland America and Princess in the cooler months, Royal Caribbean and Disney in season
  • Warm water October through May

Best for: a classic first cruise, winter sun without a flight, grandparents and grandkids.

Quickest

Baja & Sea of Cortez

  • 3 and 4 night Ensenada and Catalina weekends on Royal Caribbean and Disney, fall through spring
  • 10 to 12 night Sea of Cortez voyages to La Paz, Loreto and Guaymas on Holland America
  • Whales, sea lions and the quietest corner of Mexico

Best for: a long weekend, or a longer trip to places the big-ship loops never reach.

Big trip

Hawaii, 15 to 18 nights

  • Four or five islands with ten sea days, no flight to Honolulu
  • Holland America and Princess, fall through spring, often with a Mexico stop
  • The most relaxing itinerary on the West Coast

Best for: retirees, sea-day lovers, anyone who wants to unpack once for two weeks.

When to go

San Diego is busiest from October to April. Here is how fares move through the year.

January to FebruaryWhale season, the best Mexico weather and the lowest winter fares outside Presidents’ week.
March to AprilSpring break pushes short sailings up; Hawaii and Sea of Cortez voyages are still well priced. Disney arrives for the spring.
May to AugustThe quiet season: a handful of coastal and Mexico sailings. Good value if the dates work.
September to OctoberShips return from Alaska on coastal repositionings, Disney and Royal Caribbean are back, and the Mexico season opens at the year’s lowest fares.
November to DecemberThanksgiving and Christmas weeks are peak; the first two weeks of December are the quiet bargain for Mexico and Hawaii.

San Diego cruise questions we answer every day

Where is the pier, and what does parking cost?

Ships use the B Street Pier on North Harbor Drive downtown, with the Broadway Pier next door on busy days. There is no parking on the pier itself; the Port’s long-term cruise lots and the garages across Harbor Drive typically run about $15 to $30 a day depending on the lot, with valet options above that, and some downtown hotels offer park-and-cruise packages that cost less for a week.

How far is the airport?

San Diego International is about three miles from the pier, a 10 minute taxi or rideshare. It is the shortest airport-to-ship ride of any major US port. We can add a transfer to your booking.

Should we come in the night before?

If you live in Southern California or Arizona, drive in the morning of sailing; boarding starts around 11 a.m. and ships leave about 4 p.m. If you are flying, come in the night before and stay downtown. The Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy and the Embarcadero are all within walking distance of the ship.

Do I need a passport to cruise from San Diego?

Round-trip Mexico and Hawaii sailings are closed-loop, so US citizens can sail with a birth certificate and government photo ID. One-way Panama Canal sailings and any cruise ending in Vancouver require a passport. We recommend a passport for everyone: if you need to fly home from Cabo or Puerto Vallarta, you cannot board a flight without one.

Are taxes and fees included in the prices here?

Yes. Every price on this page includes cruise fare, taxes, fees and port expenses. Gratuities, drinks packages, excursions and parking are extra.

What does SmartCruiser add that I would not get booking direct?

Bonus onboard credit per stateroom on sailings where the line allows it, instant savings on selected departures including most Disney sailings, Special SmartCruiser rates we hold on popular San Diego sailings, and senior, California and Arizona resident, and police and fire fares when they beat the public price. The picks at the top of the list are the sailings where that extra applies.
