A thousand waterfalls before lunch and daylight at midnight.
Geiranger, Flåm, Bergen, Ålesund and up past the Arctic Circle to the North Cape: the fjords are the most dramatic coastline a cruise ship can reach. Big-ship fjord weeks sail from Southampton, Amsterdam and Copenhagen from May to September on Princess, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC and Cunard; Hurtigruten runs the coast from Bergen year-round, northern lights included in winter; Viking does it with an excursion in every port. SmartCruiser shows every fjords sailing with taxes and fees included and puts the ones with SmartCruiser bonus onboard credit at the top.
Three ways to see the fjords
Pick one and the list below filters to it. The ship changes this trip more than anywhere else in Europe.
From Southampton
- 7 nights: Bergen, Geiranger, Flåm or Olden, Stavanger, then home
- Princess, Royal Caribbean, MSC, Cunard and P&O; the most sailings and the lowest fares to Norway
- Easy add-on to London; one sea day each way to settle in
Best for: first fjord cruises, families, London plus Norway in one trip
Hurtigruten from Bergen
- The working coastal route: 34 ports between Bergen and Kirkenes, 6, 7 or 12 nights
- Northern lights October to March, with a promise to sail you again if they do not show on the 12 night round voyage
- Small ships that go where the big ones cannot, locals getting on and off
Best for: northern lights, Norway purists, winter travelers, photographers
From Amsterdam
- Holland America, Celebrity and Princess, 7 to 14 nights
- Norway plus Denmark, the Faroes or Iceland on the longer runs
- Nonstop flights from most US hubs and a great city to start in
Best for: US travelers, combining a city stay with the fjords, longer itineraries

Stack any filters, then pick a sortPrices are per person, double occupancy, in US dollars, and include cruise fare, taxes, fees and port expenses as published by the cruise line at the moment you load this page. Fares are capacity controlled and change daily; the fare is confirmed when you book. Flights, hotels and transfers are extra unless the line’s offer says otherwise. SmartCruiser instant savings and bonus onboard credit are provided by SmartCruiser on top of the cruise line’s price and are not available when booking direct; amounts are per stateroom, vary by stateroom category and are shown for the lowest category offered. Special SmartCruiser rates are pricing SmartCruiser holds on that sailing for its clients, with extra onboard credit; you book your own stateroom and travel on your own. Senior fares apply to guests 55 and over; resident fares need proof of residency in a listed state or province at check-in; police and fire fares apply to active or retired police, fire and EMT personnel with ID. Qualifier-fare savings are measured against the best fare the cruise line offers the general public for the same stateroom category on the day the list was pulled, updated weekly.
Where the ships start
Southampton has the most sailings, Bergen puts you in the fjords on day one. Pick a port and the list above filters to it.
Which line for the fjords?
Scenic cruising is the whole point, so deck space, narration and ship size matter. Our one-line take, with a link to each deals page.
When to go
Big ships sail May to September. Hurtigruten sails all year, and the dark months are the point.
Norwegian fjords cruise questions we answer every day
Do I need a visa or a passport?
A passport valid six months beyond your return. US and Canadian citizens need no visa for Norway, the UK, Denmark or the Netherlands; from 2026 the EU’s ETIAS travel authorization applies to the Schengen stops and we remind you when you book.
Will I see the northern lights?
Not from a summer cruise: it never gets dark enough. From October to March on Hurtigruten, sailing above the Arctic Circle, your odds over a 12-night round voyage are excellent, and the line sails you again free if they do not show. Dress in layers and sleep in them.
Is it cold in summer?
Bergen in July is 65 and showery; Geiranger can be 75 and still. Pack a rain shell, a fleece and sunglasses, and expect all three in one day. Pools on deck are heated and the hot tubs are the best seat for the scenery.
Which fjord is the one to see?
Geirangerfjord, the UNESCO one with the Seven Sisters waterfalls, and the ship sails right up it. Sognefjord to Flåm for the railway. Nærøyfjord is the narrowest. A 7-night Southampton loop usually gets two of the three; Hurtigruten adds Geiranger in summer and the whole coast north of it.
Are taxes and fees included in the prices here?
Yes. Every price on this page includes cruise fare, taxes, fees and port expenses. Flights, hotels, gratuities, drinks packages and excursions are extra.
What do the SmartCruiser picks mean?
They are sailings where booking through SmartCruiser gets you something you do not get booking direct: instant savings, bonus onboard credit, a Special SmartCruiser rate we hold on that sailing, or a senior, resident or police & fire fare that beats the best public price.
