Cruises from Vancouver

The Inside Passage starts at the gangway. Denali is optional.

Vancouver is the original Alaska port and still the best one: every line sails from Canada Place downtown, the round-trip Inside Passage stays in sheltered water the whole way, and the one-way Glacier Route to Seward or Whittier adds Hubbard Glacier, College Fjord and the door to Denali on a cruisetour. SmartCruiser shows every sailing leaving Vancouver from every line, prices them with taxes and fees included, and puts the sailings with SmartCruiser bonus onboard credit and better-than-public fares at the top.

Land plus sea

When to go

Vancouver is a May to October port. Here is how the Alaska season moves.

Late April to MayCoastal repositionings bring the ships in, and the first Alaska sailings are the lowest fares of the year. Snow on the peaks, whales arriving, quiet ports.
JuneLong days and warming weather. Prices rise through the month; mid June is the last good value before school lets out.
July to mid AugustPeak Alaska. The warmest weather, the fullest ships, the highest fares. Book cruisetours by January.
Late August to SeptemberFares fall fast once schools go back. Fall color, salmon runs and northern lights odds on September sailings.
Late September to OctoberThe last Alaska one-ways arrive and the coastal, Hawaii and transpacific repositionings leave. Bargain season for flexible travelers.

Vancouver cruise questions we answer every day

Do I need a passport to cruise from Vancouver?

Yes, everyone does, including US citizens. You are entering Canada to board, and most Vancouver sailings are one-way or cross the border, so a birth certificate is not enough. Check that your passport is valid for the whole trip. Some nationalities also need a Canadian eTA or visa to fly into Vancouver; ask us when you book.

Where is Canada Place, and what does parking cost?

Canada Place is the white-sailed building on the downtown waterfront at the foot of Burrard Street, with the cruise terminal underneath. The Canada Place parkade, run by Impark, costs about C$25 to C$30 a day pre-booked online, more as a walk-up, and it sells out on busy Saturdays in summer; nearby EasyPark lots with a shuttle are a little less. US cruisers driving up from Washington often park at the Tsawwassen or Bellingham lots and take a shuttle.

How far is the airport?

Vancouver International is about 30 to 40 minutes by taxi, or 25 minutes on the Canada Line SkyTrain to Waterfront Station, which is a two minute walk from Canada Place. Flying into Seattle and taking the Amtrak Cascades or a shuttle north is possible but adds four hours; we recommend flying to YVR.

Should we come in the night before?

Yes. Alaska ships sail at 4 or 5 p.m., US Customs pre-clearance at Canada Place takes time on busy Saturdays, and a flight delay can cost you the cruise. Stay downtown or in Coal Harbour and walk to the ship; Stanley Park and the seawall make for a perfect pre-cruise morning.

Are taxes and fees included in the prices here?

Yes. Every price on this page is in US dollars and includes cruise fare, taxes, fees and port expenses. Gratuities, drinks packages, excursions, parking and the Canadian eTA are extra.

Why sail from Vancouver instead of Seattle?

Vancouver round trips stay inside the sheltered Inside Passage both ways, with more daylight scenery and less open ocean, and only Vancouver offers the one-way Glacier Route to Seward and Whittier with Hubbard Glacier, College Fjord and the Denali cruisetours. Seattle wins on flights and on not needing a passport. We will price both for you side by side.
