About Viking Libra
Viking Libra is the ship Viking describes as the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship capable of operating with zero emissions. Under construction at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard, she was floated out in March 2026 and is scheduled for delivery in November 2026. Her hybrid propulsion is based partly on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells supplied by Fincantieri subsidiary Isotta Fraschini Motori, producing up to six megawatts, enough to let her run emission-free in environmentally sensitive areas.
In every other respect she is a sister to Viking Vela, Vesta and Mira: about 54,300 gross tons, 784 feet long, 499 staterooms, all with verandas, and 998 guests. There is no casino, no guest under 18 and no inside cabin. One shore excursion in every port, all restaurants, beer and wine with lunch and dinner, Wi-Fi and the Nordic Spa thermal suite are included, and the public rooms carry the same Scandinavian design, from the two-deck Explorers’ Lounge to the Infinity Pool at the stern.
Her inaugural season opens in early December 2026 from Athens (Piraeus) with Greek Isles and Western Mediterranean sailings, then she heads north in January 2027 for a winter of Northern Lights voyages between London and Tromsø, a summer between Bergen, Stockholm and London, and a fall return to Lisbon, Barcelona, Rome and Athens. She suits travelers who want to be among the first on a landmark ship without giving up the quiet Viking style.
