About Explora II

EXPLORA II entered service in 2024 as the second ship of Explora Journeys, the luxury brand of the MSC Group, and the twin of EXPLORA I. Built by Fincantieri, she is about 814 feet long with 14 decks and 456 ocean-front suites, penthouses and residences, each with floor-to-ceiling windows and a private terrace, and Explora quotes a 1.25 to 1 guest-to-host ratio. Dining and drinks are in the fare: Emporium Marketplace, Fil Rouge, Marble & Co. Grill, Sakura, the Med Yacht Club, Crema Café, the poolside Gelateria & Crêperie and 24-hour in-suite dining, with only the Anthology tasting menu and the Chef’s Kitchen cooking classes as extras. Five heated pools include the Astern infinity pool, the covered Conservatory Pool and the adults-only Helios Pool, and 12 bars and lounges run from the Lobby Bar to Sky Bar on 14. In October 2026 Explora’s first President’s Journey, hosted by brand president Anna Nash, sails aboard this ship.

After her 2026 summer in the Mediterranean, EXPLORA II stays in Southern Europe for the winter, sailing the Western Mediterranean, North Africa and the Atlantic islands from November 2026 to March 2027 with voyages between Barcelona, Rome and Lisbon, maiden calls at Algiers, Ceuta, La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Palamós and a New Year sailing from Barcelona to Rome. Explora II questions we answer every day

How big is Explora II?
EXPLORA II is the twin of EXPLORA I: about 814 feet (248 meters) long with 14 decks, roughly 63,600 gross tons and 456 ocean-front suites, penthouses and residences. Explora quotes a 1.25 to 1 guest-to-host ratio, which places her in the ultra-luxury bracket of about 900 guests, with five heated pools, six restaurants and 12 bars and lounges.
Where does Explora II sail in 2026 and 2027?
She sails the Mediterranean in summer 2026 and stays in Southern Europe for the winter: from November 2026 to March 2027 she covers the Western Mediterranean, Morocco, Portugal, the Canary Islands and Madeira with voyages between Barcelona, Rome and Lisbon, including a December 28 New Year sailing from Barcelona to Rome. Summer 2027 is the Mediterranean and Adriatic with new calls at Trogir and Koper, and in winter 2027-2028 she sails the Caribbean.
What is included in the fare on Explora II?
Nine culinary experiences including in-suite dining, unlimited beverages including fine wines, champagne, premium spirits, specialty coffees and soft drinks, a welcome bottle of champagne plus a bottle of wine and spirits in the suite, high-speed Wi-Fi, gratuities, the Ocean Wellness thermal area, group fitness and mindfulness sessions and port shuttles where available. Anthology, the Chef’s Kitchen and spa treatments are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Explora Journeys allows it, not available booking direct.
Which suite should I choose on Explora II?
Every suite faces the ocean with a terrace, so the Ocean Terrace Suite at about 377 square feet is the natural choice for couples, and the Ocean Grand Terrace Suite on Decks 6 and 7 adds a bigger terrace for al fresco meals. Ocean Penthouses add a separate living area and laundry, Ocean Residences add a private outdoor whirlpool and Residence Host, and the Owner’s Residence spans the stern with a private pool.
What is special about the winter 2026-2027 season on Explora II?
Explora moved the ship from a planned Middle East season to the Western Mediterranean and added five maiden ports: Ceuta, Algiers, San Sebastián de La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Palamós. Sailings carry Shore-to-Table Chef’s Kitchen experiences in Palermo, Marseille and Barcelona, a Meet the Winemaker visit to Il Palagio in Tuscany, the complimentary truffle season in October and November and a 12-day Ocean Wellness program on the February 11, 2027, Barcelona to Lisbon journey.
Is Explora II good for families?
It suits families who want calm rather than waterparks. The Nautilus Club takes ages 6 to 17 with gaming, VR, sports and crafts, children 3 to 5 can join sessions with a parent, infants from six months are welcome with cribs and toys on request, and 82 connecting suites link for larger groups. The Helios Pool is adults-only and there are no stage shows or activities built for young children.
