About Avalon Visionary

Avalon Visionary launched in 2012 as the first of Avalon’s shorter Suite Ships. At 361 feet it carries just 128 guests in 64 staterooms with a crew of 37, about 40 fewer guests than the full-length ships, which makes for a quieter lounge, a faster disembarkation at each stop and a dining room where the staff know your name by the second night. Its sisters are Artistry II, Poetry II, Tapestry II, Tranquility II and Imagery II.

The smaller hull changes nothing about the suites. The Royal and Sapphire decks are given over to 200-square-foot Panorama Suites with the Open-Air Balcony window that slides open seven feet wide and a bed that faces the river, with Deluxe Staterooms on the Indigo Deck. The Panorama Dining Room, Panorama Bistro and Sky Bistro cover meals, wine and beer are poured at lunch and dinner, and the Sky Deck has a whirlpool and shade system.

Avalon Visionary is a Danube ship for 2026 and 2027. It sails the eight-day Danube Dreams between Budapest and Vilshofen, with stops in Bratislava, Vienna, the Wachau Valley, Melk, Linz and Passau, and in the holiday season runs Christmastime on the Danube between Nuremberg and Vienna and short Christmastime cruises between Vienna and Budapest. It suits travelers who want the full Danube on an intimate ship.

Avalon Visionary questions we answer every day

How big is Avalon Visionary?
Avalon Visionary is 361 feet long with four decks, 64 staterooms and room for 128 guests served by a crew of 37. It entered service in 2012 as the first of Avalon’s shorter Suite Ships, built to the same standard as the 166-guest ships but with about 40 fewer guests. Panorama Suites fill the Royal and Sapphire decks and Deluxe Staterooms are on the Indigo Deck.
Where does Avalon Visionary sail in 2026 and 2027?
Avalon Visionary is dedicated to the Danube. Its main itinerary is the eight-day Danube Dreams between Budapest and Vilshofen, calling at Bratislava, Vienna, Dürnstein in the Wachau Valley, Melk, Linz and Passau. In November and December it sails Christmastime on the Danube between Nuremberg and Vienna, some with two nights in Prague, and six-day Christmastime cruises between Vienna and Budapest. Rhine and Moselle cruises appear on its 2028 schedule.
Is a smaller Avalon ship better?
For many guests, yes. With 128 guests instead of 166 the Panorama Lounge never feels crowded, excursion groups are smaller, the Sky Deck has loungers to spare and the crew of 37 gets to know everyone. The suites, dining, included drinks and excursion choices are identical to the larger ships, so you give up nothing except a few seats at dinner.
Which staterooms are best on Avalon Visionary?
Panorama Suites on the Royal and Sapphire decks are 200 square feet with the Open-Air Balcony and a bed facing the river; the Royal Deck is closest to the lounge and Sky Deck. Deluxe Staterooms on the Indigo Deck are 172 square feet with fixed windows and the lowest fares. The Royal Suites at 300 square feet add a king bed, a second panoramic door and a half-bath.
What is included in the fare on Avalon Visionary?
All meals, wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, sparkling wine at breakfast, a daily happy hour, 24-hour coffee and tea in the Club Lounge, Starlink Wi-Fi, bikes and e-bikes, and a choice of Classic, Discovery or Active excursions at each stop. Gratuities, drinks outside those times and optional excursions are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Avalon allows it, not available when you book direct.
Is Avalon Visionary suitable for children?
Avalon does not accept children under eight and runs no kids’ programs. Older teens are welcome and the Active excursions, bikes and Sky Deck whirlpool keep them busy, but the ship and its guests are adult-oriented and the Danube Dreams itinerary is paced for sightseeing rather than play.
