About Indochina Pandaw

Indochina Pandaw is one of three Vietnamese-built P class sisters, launched in 2009 alongside Orient Pandaw and Bassac Pandaw. Pandaw moved her to Burma in 2011 and she is now back on the Mekong, where her 28 teak-and-brass staterooms and 56 guests make her a mid-sized ship by Pandaw standards. The P class copies the look of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company steamers of the colonial era: wraparound promenade decks, brass fittings, a shaded sundeck and a shallow draft of about 1.5 meters.

Life on board is relaxed and social. Breakfast and lunch are semi-buffet, dinners are seated theme menus cooked by a local master chef, and there is a saloon bar with nightly entertainment, a sundeck bar and a 24-hour hospitality bar. The ship carries a Pandaw Spa with two massage rooms, a library, a lecture room and a fair-trade shop. Local guides lead every excursion, by coach, on foot and by sampan.

In 2026 and 2027 Indochina Pandaw sails the seven-night Classic Mekong between Saigon and Siem Reap, with published departures in November 2026 and from January through March 2027, alternating upstream and downstream. She suits travelers who want Pandaw’s small-ship, all-outdoors style on the Vietnam and Cambodia Mekong without the bigger hotel-style river ships on the same river.

  • P class colonial design in teak and brass, a sister to Bassac Pandaw and Orient Pandaw
  • 28 staterooms of about 170 square feet, each with a panoramic French window to the promenade deck
  • Pandaw Spa with two massage rooms staffed by local therapists
  • Shallow 1.5 meter draft that reaches Mekong stretches larger ships cannot
  • Saloon bar with nightly entertainment, sundeck bar and a 24-hour hospitality bar
  • Onboard bakery, local master chef and seated theme dinners
  • Included excursions with coach, deluxe sampans and local English-speaking guides
  • Seven-night Classic Mekong sailings between Saigon and Siem Reap in 2026 and 2027

Families and who it suits

Pandaw says its ships are not suitable for children under 8 because the open rails have no safety netting; older children share a cabin with an adult, and Pandaw designates certain school-holiday departures as family friendly with child offers.

Indochina Pandaw questions we answer every day

How big is Indochina Pandaw?
Indochina Pandaw is a 28-stateroom P class river ship carrying 56 guests, 51.9 meters (about 170 feet) long with a 10.2 meter beam and a draft of 1.5 meters. Pandaw lists her at 837 gross tons. She was built in Vietnam in 2009 as a sister to Orient Pandaw and Bassac Pandaw and spent 2011 onward in Burma before returning to the Mekong.
Where does Indochina Pandaw sail in 2026 and 2027?
She sails Pandaw’s seven-night Classic Mekong between Saigon and Siem Reap, calling at Ben Tre, Chau Doc, Phnom Penh, Kampong Tralach, Oudong and Steung Trang before the coach to Siem Reap. Published departures run in November 2026 and from January through March 2027, alternating upstream and downstream. Between September and November high water can swap the Tonle Sap stops for a run north to Kratie.
What are the cabins like on Indochina Pandaw?
All 28 staterooms are about 170 square feet, finished in teak and brass, with a panoramic French window that opens straight onto the promenade deck, so your seating is outside your door. Each has individually controlled air conditioning, a Nespresso machine, a stocked minibar, glass bottled water, a mini safe, kimonos and premium mattresses. Cabins are twin or double only; there are no triples or suites on this ship.
What is included in the fare on Indochina Pandaw?
Main meals, all guided excursions and entrance fees, English-speaking guides, crew gratuities, Siem Reap transfers, local mineral water, jugged coffee, teas and tisanes, a welcome cocktail and the cabin minibar. Bar drinks, wine, spa treatments, laundry, visas, port dues and tips to local guides and drivers are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Pandaw allows it, not available when you book direct.
Is there air conditioning on Indochina Pandaw?
Yes in every cabin, the dining room and the lower deck areas. Pandaw notes that on Indochina Pandaw, Bassac Pandaw and Tonle Pandaw the saloon bar is cooled by fans rather than air conditioning, which fits the open, colonial character of these ships. Wi-Fi is available in the public areas and on the sundeck, with no connection in the cabins.
Who is Indochina Pandaw best for?
Travelers who want to see the Vietnam and Cambodia Mekong from a small, characterful ship rather than a large hotel-style vessel. The pace is unhurried, excursions are in small groups by sampan, coach and on foot, and the open decks put you close to river life. It is not the ship for guests who want a pool, a gym, a casino or big-ship entertainment.
