About Sabaidee Pandaw

Sabaidee Pandaw is the newest and largest of Pandaw’s three Upper Mekong ships in Laos. Launched in 2018 as the seventeenth ship in the Pandaw flotilla, she was designed around the navigational challenge of the Laos gorges, where the river narrows and runs fast, and was originally built to serve the route north toward the Chinese border. At 171 feet with 14 staterooms for 28 guests, she offers a little more space than her 2015 sister Laos Pandaw without losing the shallow draft that makes this river possible.

Staterooms are split eight on the main deck and six on the upper deck, each about 170 square feet in teak and brass with a panoramic French window, Nespresso machine, complimentary minibar and individually controlled air conditioning. Public rooms are the classic Pandaw set: an air-conditioned bistro dining room with outside tables, an open-air lounge and bar on the upper deck, a 24-hour hospitality bar, an onboard bakery, a library and wrap-around promenades for watching the limestone cliffs slide by.

In 2026-2027 Sabaidee Pandaw sails The Laos Mekong, the ten-night expedition between Vientiane and Chiang Khong, with upstream and downstream departures from October through March and festive sailings over Christmas and New Year. The route takes in Luang Prabang, the Pak Ou caves, Kuang Si waterfalls, Hmong and Khmu villages, the Pak Beng Elephant Sanctuary and the Golden Triangle. She is the pick for guests who want an upper-deck stateroom on this river.

Sabaidee Pandaw questions we answer every day

How big is Sabaidee Pandaw?
Sabaidee Pandaw is a two-deck river ship of about 171 feet (52 meters) with a beam of 31 feet and a maximum draft of about six feet, carrying 28 guests in 14 staterooms. Pandaw launched her in Laos in 2018 as the seventeenth ship in its flotilla, designed for the fast, narrow gorges of the Upper Mekong.
Where does Sabaidee Pandaw sail in 2026 and 2027?
She sails The Laos Mekong, a ten-night expedition between Vientiane and Chiang Khong on the Thai border, with upstream and downstream departures from October through March in both the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons, including festive sailings over Christmas and New Year. Embarkation is by long-tail boat at Pak Lay after a hotel pickup in Vientiane, and the cruise ends with transfers to Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai.
Which staterooms are best on Sabaidee Pandaw?
All 14 staterooms share the same 170-square-foot teak-and-brass layout with a panoramic French window, Nespresso machine and complimentary minibar. The six upper-deck staterooms sit beside the open-air lounge and bar and are the first to sell; the eight main-deck staterooms open straight onto the promenade and are a few steps from the dining room.
What is included in the fare on Sabaidee Pandaw?
All meals, every listed excursion with entrance fees, English-speaking guides, crew gratuities, transfers between Vientiane, the ship and Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai, local mineral water, jugged coffee, teas and tisanes and the cabin minibar. Bar drinks including local beer, spirits, soft drinks and wine are charged on the Laos Mekong, with pre-bookable drinks packages available. Laundry, visas and flights are extra.
Is Sabaidee Pandaw the same as Laos Pandaw and Champa Pandaw?
All three sail the identical Laos Mekong route with the same guides, food and inclusions. Laos Pandaw (2015) carries 20 guests in ten main-deck staterooms of about 150 square feet. Champa Pandaw (2016) and Sabaidee Pandaw (2018) each carry 28 guests in 14 staterooms of about 170 square feet; Sabaidee has six upper-deck staterooms to Champa’s two.
What should I expect on board Sabaidee Pandaw?
An expedition ship, not a resort: no spa, pool or show lounge, Wi-Fi in public areas only, and active days of village walks, temple visits and market tours. Evenings bring talks, a dance performance or a sandbank barbecue. Pandaw ships are not suitable for children under 8, and the single dining room means one relaxed sitting at dinner with everyone on board.
