About American Liberty

American Liberty is the third of American Cruise Lines’ Coastal Cats, delivered by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in summer 2024 and christened in Newport, Rhode Island as what the line then called the newest cruise ship in the USA. A 100-guest catamaran on four decks with 56 staterooms, it offers the access of expedition cruising with the comfort and stability of a river cruise, reaching small ports and inland waterways that larger ships cannot.

All staterooms have private balconies, from 250-square-foot singles to the 550-square-foot Grand Suite, with full-size furniture and large bathrooms. Observation and sitting areas fill the bow, the sun deck has a walking track, and the stern activity platform carries a tender for exploring straight from the ship. The modern interior takes its cues from the New England, Chesapeake and Southeast coasts the ship was built to sail, and the fare includes everything on board.

In 2026 and 2027 American Liberty is the Sea Islands specialist, sailing the nine-day Southeast Sea Islands cruise between Charleston and Amelia Island for most of the year, with Great Rivers of Florida from Jacksonville, the East Coast Inland Passage between Baltimore, Amelia Island and Washington, D.C., American Revolution cruises between Washington and Philadelphia for the 250th anniversary, and Hudson River Fall Foliage in October. It suits travelers who want Savannah, Charleston, Beaufort and the barrier islands in comfort.

American Liberty questions we answer every day

How big is American Liberty?
American Liberty is a 100-guest catamaran with four decks and 56 staterooms, built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland and delivered in 2024 as the third of American Cruise Lines’ Coastal Cats. The line does not publish tonnage, length or crew numbers. Every stateroom has a private balcony, sizes run from 250 to 550 square feet, and an elevator serves every deck.
Where does American Liberty sail in 2026 and 2027?
Mostly the Southeast. American Liberty sails the nine-day Southeast Sea Islands cruise between Charleston and Amelia Island from November through mid-June and again from August into December, with a Great Rivers of Florida cruise from Jacksonville in February. In between it sails the East Coast Inland Passage to Washington, D.C., American Revolution cruises between Washington and Philadelphia in July 2027, and Hudson River Fall Foliage between New York and Albany in October.
What is a Coastal Cat?
It is American Cruise Lines’ name for its series of 100-guest catamarans, built under the company’s Project Blue program at Chesapeake Shipbuilding. The twin-hull design gives a shallow draft and a stable ride, so the ships can enter small ports and travel rivers and inland waterways that conventional ships cannot, while a wide stern platform carries a tender and kayaks. American Eagle and American Glory came first in 2023, then American Liberty and American Legend in 2024.
What is included in the fare on American Liberty?
American Cruise Lines is all-inclusive. The fare covers all meals and snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks around the clock, the daily cocktail hour, a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay with luggage service and transfer to the ship, at least one Featured excursion in every port, enrichment talks and nightly entertainment, Starlink Wi-Fi, gratuities, port charges and fees. Premium and Signature excursions cost extra.
Which staterooms are best on American Liberty?
Every stateroom has a balcony. Most guests choose the 300-square-foot Vista Balcony rooms on Deck 3 or Premium Balcony rooms on Deck 2. The 550-square-foot Grand Suite on Deck 4 adds a separate living room, breakfast bar and 25-foot balcony, and the 440-square-foot Sky Suite has a dramatic triple-panel glass wall. Solo travelers have 250-square-foot Single Balcony rooms on Decks 2 and 3 without a supplement.
Is American Liberty good for families with children?
Not really. American Cruise Lines runs no children’s program, there are no kids clubs or connecting family cabins, and the onboard program of history talks, cocktail hours and evening music is built for adult travelers. Most guests are retired couples and solo travelers. If you are considering bringing a teenager, ask about the line’s age policy before booking.
