About American Legend

American Legend is the fourth and newest of American Cruise Lines’ Coastal Cats, built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding and launched in late 2024 with an inaugural cruise from Florida before its christening in Key West. Like its sisters it carries 100 guests in 56 balcony staterooms on four decks, and its catamaran hull draws so little water that it can travel almost any river or waterway in the country with rare access into small ports.

The modern interior pairs spacious staterooms, from 250-square-foot singles to the 550-square-foot Grand Suite, with an elegant restaurant, several lounges, a fitness center and an outdoor café. Observation areas at the bow are the place to watch harbors slide by, the sun deck has a walking track, and the stern activity platform carries a tender and kayaks. Every fare includes meals, drinks, the cocktail hour, a hotel night, excursions and gratuities.

American Legend ranges the whole East Coast in 2026 and 2027. Winter brings Southeast Sea Islands cruises between Charleston and Amelia Island and Florida Gulf Coast & Keys round trips from St. Petersburg, spring the East Coast Inland Passage and American Revolution cruises between Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, and summer Northeast Harbors, Cape Codder round trips from Boston and New England Islands from Providence, before Hudson River Fall Foliage in October. It suits travelers who want the newest Coastal Cat and a varied year.

American Legend questions we answer every day

How big is American Legend?
American Legend is a 100-guest catamaran with four decks and 56 staterooms, built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland and launched in late 2024 as the fourth of American Cruise Lines’ Coastal Cats. The line does not publish tonnage, length or crew numbers. Every stateroom has a private balcony, sizes run from 250 to 550 square feet, and an elevator serves every deck.
Where does American Legend sail in 2026 and 2027?
All along the East Coast. From November to March it sails Southeast Sea Islands cruises between Charleston and Amelia Island and Florida Gulf Coast & Keys round trips from St. Petersburg. In spring it rides the East Coast Inland Passage to Washington, D.C., and sails American Revolution cruises to and from Philadelphia. Summer brings Northeast Harbors between New York and Boston, Cape Codder round trips from Boston and New England Islands from Providence, then Hudson River Fall Foliage from Albany in October.
What is a Coastal Cat?
It is American Cruise Lines’ name for its series of 100-guest catamarans, built under the company’s Project Blue program at Chesapeake Shipbuilding. The twin-hull design gives a shallow draft and a stable ride, so the ships can enter small ports and travel rivers and inland waterways that conventional ships cannot, while a wide stern platform carries a tender and kayaks. American Eagle and American Glory came first in 2023, then American Liberty and American Legend in 2024.
What is included in the fare on American Legend?
American Cruise Lines is all-inclusive. The fare covers all meals and snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks around the clock, the daily cocktail hour, a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay with luggage service and transfer to the ship, at least one Featured excursion in every port, enrichment talks and nightly entertainment, Starlink Wi-Fi, gratuities, port charges and fees. Premium and Signature excursions cost extra.
Which staterooms are best on American Legend?
Every stateroom has a balcony. Most guests choose the 300-square-foot Vista Balcony rooms on Deck 3 or Premium Balcony rooms on Deck 2. The 550-square-foot Grand Suite on Deck 4 adds a separate living room, breakfast bar and 25-foot balcony, and the 440-square-foot Sky Suite has a dramatic triple-panel glass wall. Solo travelers have 250-square-foot Single Balcony rooms on Decks 2 and 3 without a supplement.
Is American Legend good for families with children?
Not really. American Cruise Lines runs no children’s program, there are no kids clubs or connecting family cabins, and the onboard program of history talks, cocktail hours and evening music is built for adult travelers. Most guests are retired couples and solo travelers. If you are considering bringing a teenager, ask about the line’s age policy before booking.
