About River Tosca

River Tosca is the all-suite ship Uniworld charters for its Splendors of Egypt & the Nile program. Built in 2009, she is 236 feet long and 46 feet wide, carries a maximum of 82 guests in 41 suites and sails with a staff of 60, close to one crew member per guest. Her interiors use warm wood finishes and local Egyptian wares, with Egyptian cotton linens in every suite, and all suites have a French balcony opening to the river.

This is a ship for travelers who want the Nile done in comfort rather than on a crowded standard cruiser. The 39 Grand Suites are 313 to 335 square feet and the two Royal Suites 651 square feet, each with a bathtub and shower. Life on board centers on the Sun Deck with its swimming pool and shaded cabanas, a lounge decorated with Egyptian crafts, a single restaurant, a fitness center and a massage room. Uniworld notes that amenities on a chartered ship may differ from its company-owned vessels.

River Tosca sails the 12-day Splendors of Egypt & the Nile itinerary round trip from Cairo in 2026 and 2027, with the Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan bracketed by hotel stays in Cairo and visits to the Pyramids, the Temple of Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. December departures are part of Uniworld’s Generations family program. She shares the route with the newer S.S. Sphinx. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Uniworld allows it, not available booking direct.

River Tosca questions we answer every day

How big is River Tosca?
River Tosca is 236 feet long and 46 feet wide, carrying a maximum of 82 guests in 41 suites with a staff of 60. She was built in 2009 and is chartered by Uniworld for Egypt. All 41 accommodations are suites: 39 Grand Suites of 313 to 335 square feet and two Royal Suites of 651 square feet, every one with a French balcony.
Where does River Tosca sail in 2026 and 2027?
She sails only the 12-day Splendors of Egypt & the Nile itinerary, which starts and ends in Cairo. Guests stay in Cairo for the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, fly to Luxor to board, cruise the Nile to Aswan and back past Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu and Kom Ombo, then return to Cairo. The same route is also sailed by the S.S. Sphinx.
Which suites are best on River Tosca?
All suites have French balconies and bathtubs, so the main choice is size. The 39 Grand Suites at 313 to 335 square feet are already larger than most European river cabins. The two 651-square-foot Royal Suites add a separate sitting area and are the rooms to book for a special occasion; they sell first.
What is included on River Tosca?
All meals, drinks, guided excursions with an Egyptologist, hotel stays in Cairo, internal flights within the itinerary and gratuities for ship crew, guides and drivers during the cruise and land stays. Uniworld notes some inclusions in Egypt differ from its European ships. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Uniworld allows it, not available booking direct.
Does River Tosca have a pool?
Yes. The Sun Deck has a swimming pool with shaded cabanas, which matters on the Nile where afternoon temperatures are high and the ship spends long stretches cruising between Luxor and Aswan. There is also a fitness center and a massage room.
Is River Tosca suitable for families?
On standard departures Uniworld admits guests aged 5 and over but offers few activities for children. River Tosca’s December sailings are part of the Generations family program, with family-oriented excursions, kid-friendly menus and staff assigned to younger guests, which makes Christmas week on the Nile a realistic multi-generational trip.
