About Amadeus Nova

Amadeus Nova, delivered in 2024, is the ship that introduced hybrid diesel-electric propulsion to Amadeus River Cruises. A large battery covers power peaks without extra generators, the main engines carry high-performance filters and catalytic converters, a heat-recovery system reuses thermal energy, and a semi-autonomous control system supports the captain on safety and fuel efficiency. She is 443 feet long with four decks and carries a maximum of 158 guests in 67 outside cabins and 12 Amadeus Suites with a crew of about 46.

Amadeus describes Nova as roomier and more luxurious than the Cara or Riva, with more open-air space, floor-to-ceiling windows in the suites and, for the first time in the fleet, a heated swimming pool and Lido Bar on the sun deck. The Panorama Restaurant, the Amadeus Lounge for light lunches, Café Vienna and a fitness room complete the public rooms, and the Mozart and Strauss deck cabins keep the signature drop-down panoramic window.

Nova is the fleet’s Danube specialist in 2026 and 2027. Alongside Danube Rhapsody round trips from Passau and the Classical Danube between Passau and Budapest, she sails the 10 and 11-day 1,200 Miles on the Beautiful Blue Danube between Vienna and Bucharest through the Iron Gates to the Danube Delta, 14 and 15-day Lower Danube and Transylvania programs, a 16-day Danube Delta round trip from Passau in 2027, a wine cruise, German Riverscapes from Passau to Trier, and Advent, Christmas and New Year cruises on the Danube, Main and Rhine. She suits travelers who want the newest technology and the longer Danube voyages.

Amadeus Nova questions we answer every day

How big is Amadeus Nova?
Amadeus Nova is 443 feet long and 37 feet wide with four decks, built in 2024 for a maximum of 158 guests in 67 outside cabins and 12 suites, with a crew of about 46. It is the standard river-ship footprint for the Danube and Rhine locks, but Amadeus gives her more open-air space than the earlier Cara and Riva and the fleet’s first heated pool on the sun deck.
What is different about Amadeus Nova’s hybrid propulsion?
Nova uses a diesel-electric system with a large battery that covers power peaks so extra generators are not needed, main engines with high-performance filters and catalytic converters, and a heat-recovery system that reuses the generators’ thermal energy. A semi-autonomous control system helps the captain plan routes for fuel efficiency. The practical result for guests is a quieter, cleaner ship.
Where does Amadeus Nova sail in 2026 and 2027?
Mostly the Danube. She runs Passau round trips and Passau to Budapest weeks, the 10 and 11-day 1,200 Miles on the Beautiful Blue Danube between Vienna and Bucharest, 14 and 15-day Lower Danube and Transylvania programs, a 16-day Danube Delta round trip from Passau in 2027, a Danube wine cruise, German Riverscapes from Passau to Trier, and Advent, Christmas and New Year’s cruises from Vienna, Nuremberg, Passau and Strasbourg.
Which cabins are best on Amadeus Nova?
The 12 Amadeus Suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows and walk-out balconies, are the best rooms in the fleet and the first to sell on the long Danube Delta voyages. Among the cabins, the Mozart and Strauss deck A and B categories have the drop-down panoramic window that opens the room to the river. Haydn Deck C cabins have fixed windows and the lowest fares.
What is included on Amadeus Nova?
All meals, wine, draft beer, soft drinks and coffee or tea with lunch and dinner, afternoon tea and late-night snacks, a guided excursion in most ports with wireless headsets, Wi-Fi, bicycles and e-bikes, port taxes, lock fees and all gratuities. Bar drinks between meals, massages and optional excursions are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Amadeus allows it, not available when you book direct.
Is there a pool on Amadeus Nova?
Yes. Nova was the first Amadeus ship with a heated swimming pool on the sun deck, served by the Lido Bar, and the later Aurea and Mira repeat the design. It is a river-ship pool, meant for a dip and a drink rather than laps, and it is open in the warmer months when the ship is not passing under low bridges.
