About Noordam

Noordam is the fourth and final Vista Class ship, delivered by Fincantieri in February 2006, and the fourth Holland America ship to carry the name. At 82,318 gross tons it carries 1,972 guests at double occupancy in 986 staterooms with a crew of about 811, a size that lets it reach ports the big ships cannot. A 2019 refurbishment brought Billboard Onboard, refreshed suites and staterooms and a pickleball court, and it is one of six ships named for the Holland America Evolution renovation program.

The ship keeps the classic Holland America layout: a two-level Dining Room, Lido Market, the Dive-In grill and a Lido Pool under a retractable roof, with Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Morimoto By Sea and Tamarind on select evenings as specialty options. The World Stage, Rolling Stone Lounge, Billboard Onboard and The Dam Band fill the evenings, and the Crow’s Nest observation lounge doubles as the library and café. Suites include the Neptune Lounge with concierge service.

Noordam is Holland America’s long-haul ship for the South Pacific. It leaves Seattle in October 2026 on a 34 day crossing to Sydney, sails a 35 day Australia circumnavigation from November 15, 2026, then runs 14 day Australia and New Zealand cruises between Auckland and Sydney through March 2027 before a 29 day crossing back to Seattle. Summer 2027 brings a 28 day Arctic Circle solstice voyage, 14 day Great Alaska Explorer and 7 day Alaska cruises round trip from Seattle. It suits seasoned cruisers who want longer itineraries and a mid-sized ship.

Noordam questions we answer every day

How big is Noordam?
Noordam measures 82,318 gross tons and is 936 feet long with 11 guest decks. It carries 1,972 guests at double occupancy in 986 staterooms, with a crew of about 811. Holland America describes the Vista Class as its mid-sized ships with roughly 1,900 guests, smaller than the Signature and Pinnacle Class ships and able to reach ports such as Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park.
When was Noordam built and last refurbished?
Noordam was built by Fincantieri in Italy and sailed its maiden voyage on February 22, 2006 as the last of the four Vista Class ships. Holland America’s fleet fact sheet lists its last major refurbishment as October 2019, a dry dock that added Billboard Onboard, refreshed suites and staterooms and a pickleball court. It is one of six ships in the Holland America Evolution program, and the line publishes a separate deck plan for sailings after November 24, 2027.
Where does Noordam sail in 2026 and 2027?
Noordam departs Seattle in October 2026 on a 34 day South Pacific crossing to Sydney, sails a 35 day Australia circumnavigation from November 15, 2026, then runs 14 day Australia and New Zealand cruises between Auckland and Sydney from January to March 2027 before a 29 day crossing from Sydney back to Seattle. In summer 2027 it is based in Seattle for a 28 day Arctic Circle solstice voyage departing June 6, 14 day Great Alaska Explorer cruises and 7 day Alaska and Great Bear Rainforest sailings.
Which staterooms are best on Noordam?
Verandah staterooms are the best choice for scenic cruising in Milford Sound, Glacier Bay and the Chilean-style fjords of Alaska, and midship verandahs on the Verandah and Upper Verandah decks ride most smoothly on the long Pacific crossings. Signature Suites offer more space and a tub, while Neptune Suites and the two Pinnacle Suites add the Neptune Lounge, concierge service and priority tendering.
What is included in the fare on Noordam?
The fare covers the Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive-In and snacks at the Crow’s Nest Café, plus World Stage shows, the live music venues, pools, fitness center and Kids Club where offered. Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Morimoto By Sea, Tamarind nights, alcoholic drinks, Wi-Fi and shore excursions are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Holland America allows it, something you will not get booking direct.
Is Noordam good for families?
Noordam is a traditional premium ship whose long Australia and South Pacific voyages attract mostly adults. Families are most at home on the 7 day Alaska cruises from Seattle in summer 2027, when Kids Club programs for ages 3 to 17 run, the covered Lido Pool is open in any weather and Signature Suites and connecting staterooms can hold a family of four.
