About Norwegian Sun

Norwegian Sun is the smallest ship in the Norwegian fleet at 78,309 gross tons, carrying 1,878 guests at double occupancy in 968 staterooms with a crew of 906. Built in 2001, it has nine guest decks from Deck 4 to Deck 12, two main dining rooms, Four Seasons and Seven Seas, the Stardust Lounge show room and an easy, walkable layout that makes it a favorite for port-intensive itineraries where the ship is a comfortable base rather than the destination.

A Norwegian Edge renovation in Victoria, British Columbia refreshed all 968 staterooms with smart TVs, USB ports, new carpet and artwork and added three venues: Los Lobos Cantina, Bliss Ultra Lounge and the Spinnaker Lounge. Norwegian lists a further refurbishment in 2024 and Starlink high-speed internet. Specialty dining includes Cagney’s, Le Bistro, La Cucina, Moderno Churrascaria, Teppanyaki and a sushi bar, with a Sports Bar serving pub food and The Great Outdoors buffet on the top deck.

Sun’s 2026 and 2027 schedule is all about ports. In summer 2026 it sails seven to ten-day Baltic cruises between Copenhagen and Helsinki. From November 2026 through early April 2027 it sails eleven and twelve-day Panama Canal cruises round trip from Miami with calls such as Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Costa Rica and Jamaica. From May through August 2027 it sails seven-day Mediterranean cruises with no sea days from Rome (Civitavecchia) and Venice (Ravenna). It suits couples who want a smaller ship and longer, deeper itineraries.

Norwegian Sun questions we answer every day

How big is Norwegian Sun?
Norwegian Sun is 78,309 gross tons and 848 feet long, with nine guest decks from Deck 4 to Deck 12. It has 968 staterooms carrying 1,878 guests at double occupancy with a crew of 906. Built in 2001, it is the smallest ship in the Norwegian fleet, which many guests see as its biggest advantage on port-heavy itineraries.
When was Norwegian Sun last refurbished?
Norwegian lists Sun as refurbished in 2024 and it now carries Starlink high-speed internet. Its bow-to-stern Norwegian Edge renovation in Victoria, British Columbia upgraded all 968 staterooms with smart TVs, USB ports, new carpet, artwork and furniture, renovated the dining venues and added Los Lobos Cantina, Bliss Ultra Lounge and the Spinnaker Lounge.
Where does Norwegian Sun sail in 2026 and 2027?
In summer 2026 Sun sails seven to ten-day Baltic cruises between Copenhagen and Helsinki with calls at Tallinn, Stockholm, Riga, Gdynia and Warnemunde for Berlin. From November 2026 through early April 2027 it sails eleven and twelve-day Panama Canal cruises round trip from Miami. From May through August 2027 it sails seven-day Mediterranean cruises with no sea days from Rome (Civitavecchia) and Venice (Ravenna).
Which staterooms are best on Norwegian Sun?
Balcony staterooms are the largest category and the best pick for the Panama Canal transit and Baltic scenery, with Family Balconies sleeping up to five. Club Balcony Suites add a sitting area and bathtub. For the most space, the forward and aft-facing Penthouses and the two Owner’s Suites of about 828 square feet include butler and concierge service.
What is included in the fare on Norwegian Sun?
Your fare covers the Four Seasons and Seven Seas dining rooms, Garden Café, The Great Outdoors, the Sports Bar, Topsiders grill, Stardust Lounge shows, the pool and hot tubs, fitness center and Splash Academy. Specialty restaurants carry a cover charge and drinks and Wi-Fi are extra unless packaged. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Norwegian allows it, something you will not get booking direct.
Is Norwegian Sun a good ship for a Panama Canal cruise?
Yes. Sun’s winter 2026 to 2027 season is built around eleven and twelve-day Panama Canal cruises round trip from Miami, with a partial transit through the locks and calls such as Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Costa Rica, Colombia and Jamaica. The smaller ship, open decks and balcony staterooms suit the scenic transit, and the longer length gives time to enjoy the specialty restaurants.
