Perfect Day at CocoCay cruise port

CocoCay: a free beach day with a 135-foot waterslide next door.

Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas, and since 2019 it has been the most popular stop in the company’s fleet. Ships dock at a pier (no tenders) and a free tram runs you to the Arrivals Plaza, where the beaches, the giant Oasis Lagoon pool, the lunch buffets and the loungers all cost nothing; Thrill Waterpark, the Coco Beach Club, the adults-only Hideaway Beach and the cabanas are the paid extras. Royal Caribbean ships from Florida and the Northeast call almost daily, and select Celebrity sailings stop here too. SmartCruiser lists every cruise that calls at CocoCay, priced with taxes and fees included, with the sailings that carry SmartCruiser bonus onboard credit or instant savings at the top.

Three ways to do CocoCay

Spend nothing on the free beaches, go all in at the waterpark, or buy an adults-only or beach-club day; the buttons filter the list of sailings below.

Free day

Chill Island, Oasis Lagoon and lunch on the house

  • Chill Island has the calmest water and thousands of free loungers and umbrellas; South Beach has volleyball, basketball and the Floating Bar in the shallows
  • Oasis Lagoon is billed as the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, with a swim-up bar, a DJ and shallow coves for kids; Splashaway Bay is the free splash park for little ones
  • Chill Grill, Skipper’s Grill and the Snack Shacks serve free burgers, tacos, ribs, salads and soft serve from about 11:30 to 3; your drink package works at every island bar

Best for: families, first-timers, budget-watchers

Thrills

Thrill Waterpark and the sky

  • Thirteen slides including Daredevil’s Peak, the tallest waterslide in North America at 135 feet, plus a wave pool, an obstacle course and the Adventure Pool; passes are dynamically priced from about $99 per adult and cheaper on shorter sailings
  • The Up, Up and Away helium balloon lifts you 450 feet over the island, and a zip line crosses the water to South Beach
  • Book the waterpark in the Cruise Planner before you sail; it sells out and costs more on board

Best for: teens, thrill seekers, big families

Upgrade

Coco Beach Club or Hideaway Beach

  • Coco Beach Club is the island’s premium corner: a plated restaurant with filet and lobster, an infinity pool, a quieter beach and the famous overwater cabanas; day passes run about $75 to $170
  • Hideaway Beach is the adults-only (18+) zone with its own beach, heated infinity pool, swim-up bar, DJ and included dining
  • Cabanas at Thrill, Chill, Hideaway and the beach club hold up to 8 and run about $500 to $2,500 depending on the date

Best for: couples, honeymooners, anyone celebrating

Things to do at Perfect Day at CocoCay

The free side covers a full beach day; the paid side is where the thrills and the quiet corners are.

Chill Island and South BeachTwo long free beaches with loungers, umbrellas, floating mats to rent and the Floating Bar anchored in the shallows off South Beach. Grab a tram from Arrivals Plaza or walk 10 minutes.
Oasis LagoonA huge free freshwater pool with a swim-up bar, in-water loungers, a DJ stage and shallow coves for small kids; the swim-up seats fill early, so claim a spot on the way in.
Thrill WaterparkThirteen slides topped by the 135 foot Daredevil’s Peak, plus the largest wave pool in the Caribbean and an inflatable obstacle course; full-day passes from about $99 per adult, cheaper for kids and on short sailings, bookable only through Royal Caribbean.
Coco Beach ClubPremium beach, infinity pool, a plated restaurant with lobster and filet and the overwater cabanas; day passes about $75 to $170 per person, cabanas much more and the first thing on the island to sell out.
Hideaway BeachThe adults-only (18+) beach club opened in 2024 with its own sand, heated infinity pool, swim-up bar, DJ and dining included in the pass; prices move with the sailing date.
Up, Up and Away balloon and zip lineThe tethered helium balloon rises about 450 feet for the island’s best photo; the zip line runs across the water to South Beach. Both book in the Cruise Planner and depend on wind.
Captain Jack’s and the Straw MarketCaptain Jack’s is a free-to-sit shaded hangout with swing seats, live music and paid wings and beer; the Bahamian straw market beside Arrivals Plaza takes SeaPass for some stalls but prefers US dollars.
Snorkeling and water sportsRent snorkel gear or join a guided snorkel over the sunken plane and reef off Chill Island; kayaks, paddleboards, jet ski tours and a glass-bottom boat run from the Marina.
Timing

When to go

The Bahamas are mild in winter and hot in summer; the island is open year-round and busiest on school holidays, with the hurricane risk August to October.

December to AprilHighs in the mid to upper 70s, dry and breezy; the water is in the low 70s, so the heated pool at Hideaway and the lagoon get the crowds. Peak season for ships, so book the paid areas early.
May to JuneHighs in the mid 80s, sea at 80 and only brief showers; the best balance of warm water and reasonable prices.
July to AugustHot and humid, upper 80s to 90 with afternoon storms; summer break means full ships and the waterpark sells out weeks ahead.
September to NovemberStill warm but the peak of hurricane season through October; Royal will swap the call if a storm is near. November settles down and is good value.
Good to know

CocoCay questions we answer every day

Do ships dock at CocoCay or tender?

They dock. Royal Caribbean built a pier in 2019 that takes two ships at once, even Icon and Oasis-class, so there are no tenders. It is an 8 to 10 minute walk from the gangway to Arrivals Plaza or a free ride on the Pier Tram, and a second free Island Tram loops to Chill Island, Oasis Lagoon and South Beach.

How much does a day at CocoCay cost?

Nothing, if you want it to: the beaches, loungers, umbrellas, Oasis Lagoon, Splashaway Bay and all the buffet lunches are included in your cruise fare. Thrill Waterpark (from about $99 per adult), Coco Beach Club (about $75 to $170), Hideaway Beach, the balloon, zip line and cabanas are extra and priced by sailing date in the Cruise Planner. Your ship’s drink package and Wi-Fi work on the island.

What money and cell service do I need?

Everything charges to your SeaPass card or wristband; the Bahamian dollar is pegged one to one with the US dollar and the straw market and tips are the only place you need cash. The island is on Eastern Time like Florida and your ship’s VOOM Wi-Fi connects automatically; US cell plans roam at Bahamas rates, so switch to Wi-Fi.

Is CocoCay safe and good for kids?

It is a private island staffed entirely by Royal Caribbean, with lifeguards at the pools, a kids’ splash park, free loungers and no traffic or vendors, so it is the easiest port day you will have with small children. The only cautions are sun and the water temperature in winter.

Is Thrill Waterpark worth it and when should I book?

If you have teens or like slides, yes: 13 slides, a wave pool and no lines early in the day. Book it in the Cruise Planner as soon as you have a booking; prices rise closer to sailing, it sells out on summer and holiday cruises, and it often drops in price during Royal’s Cruise Planner sales, so rebook if you see a lower number.

Do I need a passport for CocoCay?

On a round trip from a US home port (a closed-loop cruise) US citizens can sail with a government photo ID plus an original or certified birth certificate, but we recommend a valid passport; it is the only document that lets you fly home from the Bahamas in an emergency.

Are taxes and fees included in the prices here?

Yes. Every price on SmartCruiser includes the cruise fare, government taxes, fees and port expenses. Flights, hotels, shore excursions and gratuities are extra.
