About Amadeus Cara

Amadeus Cara joined the Amadeus River Cruises fleet in 2022 as a custom-designed boutique ship for the Rhine and the Danube. At 443 feet with four decks, she carries a maximum of 162 guests in 71 outside cabins and 10 Amadeus Suites, looked after by a crew of about 46. Amadeus, the river brand of family-owned Lueftner Cruises of Innsbruck, Austria, calls her a highlight of the fleet, and her layout set the template that the Riva, Nova and Aurea have since refined.

Life on board centers on the Panorama Restaurant, the Panorama Bar and Lounge with its nightly live music, Café Vienna for Viennese coffee and pastries, and the Amadeus Club, a quiet retreat with books, board games and a 24-hour coffee and tea station. The open-air River Terrace in the bow and the sun deck are the places to watch castles and vineyards slide past. Cabins on the Mozart and Strauss decks have full-width panoramic windows that lower at the push of a button, and every suite has a walk-out exterior balcony.

In 2026 and 2027 Amadeus Cara divides her year between the Classical Rhine between Amsterdam and Basel, Danube Rhapsody round trips from Passau and the Classical Danube between Passau and Budapest, with Tulip Serenade sailings from Amsterdam in spring. New for 2027 are the Blue Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest, the Three-Rivers Cruise from Amsterdam to Nuremberg, German Riverscapes from Passau to Trier and a 15-day Across Europe voyage from Amsterdam to Budapest. She suits couples who want a newer mid-size ship with wine and beer included at meals and guided excursions in every port.

  • Full-width drop-down panoramic windows in Mozart and Strauss deck cabins, opening the room to the river at the push of a button
  • 10 Amadeus Suites of 284 square feet with walk-out exterior balconies and an espresso machine
  • Open-air River Terrace in the bow plus a lower sun deck lounge and a full sun deck
  • Panorama Bar and Lounge with cocktails, live music, cooking demonstrations, lectures and themed evenings
  • Café Vienna coffee corner and the Amadeus Club with 24-hour coffee and tea, books and board games
  • Wine, draft beer, soft drinks and coffee or tea included with every lunch and dinner
  • Free onboard bicycles and e-bikes, complimentary Wi-Fi and gratuities included in the fare
  • 2027 program adds the 15-day Across Europe voyage from Amsterdam to Budapest

Amadeus Cara questions we answer every day

How big is Amadeus Cara?
Amadeus Cara is a 443-foot, four-deck river ship built in 2022 for a maximum of 162 guests in 71 outside cabins and 10 suites, with a crew of about 46. That is standard size for the Rhine and Danube locks, so she reaches the same towns as every other European river ship but with a boutique, one-restaurant feel and a crew that learns your name by the second day.
Where does Amadeus Cara sail in 2026 and 2027?
She works both of Europe’s great rivers. Rhine weeks run between Amsterdam and Basel, Danube weeks run Passau to Passau or Passau to Budapest, and spring Tulip Serenade sailings loop out of Amsterdam. In 2027 Amadeus adds the Blue Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest, the Three-Rivers Cruise from Amsterdam to Nuremberg, German Riverscapes from Passau to Trier and a 15-day Across Europe voyage from Amsterdam to Budapest.
Which cabins are best on Amadeus Cara?
The A-1 cabins on the Mozart Deck and the B cabins on the Strauss Deck have the signature drop-down panoramic window, which lowers to turn the whole cabin into an open balcony, so they are the sweet spot. The 10 Amadeus Suites add a real walk-out balcony, a lounge area and an espresso machine. The Haydn Deck C cabins have fixed windows and the lowest fares.
What is included in the fare on Amadeus Cara?
All meals, wine, draft beer, soft drinks and coffee or tea with lunch and dinner, afternoon tea and late-night snacks, a guided excursion in nearly every port with wireless headsets, Wi-Fi, bicycles and e-bikes, port taxes and lock fees, and all gratuities. Bar drinks outside meals, spa treatments and optional excursions are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Amadeus allows it, not available when you book direct.
Is Amadeus Cara a good choice for first-time river cruisers?
Yes. She is a young ship with a clear, simple layout: one restaurant, one main lounge, the Amadeus Club, Café Vienna and a sun deck, so nothing is far away. The itineraries are the classic ones, Amsterdam to Basel on the Rhine and Passau to Budapest on the Danube, with the famous sights built in, and the cruise director runs daily briefings in English.
How does Amadeus Cara differ from Amadeus Riva and Nova?
Cara (2022) has 10 suites and 71 cabins for 162 guests; Riva (2023) and Nova (2024) carry 158 guests with 12 suites each, and Nova adds hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and a heated pool on the sun deck. Cabin sizes, the drop-down windows, Café Vienna and the included drinks are the same across the three, so choose by itinerary and date first.
