About American Pioneer

American Pioneer is the second ship in American Cruise Lines’ Patriot Class, the coastal series inside the company’s Project Blue building program. Built at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, it entered service on October 31, 2025 with a 16-day Grand Florida Coast & Keys cruise from Amelia Island to St. Petersburg and was christened at Mallory Square in Key West on November 10, 2025, with the city’s mayor as godmother. It carries just 130 guests, and every one of its 69 staterooms, singles included, opens onto a private balcony.

The Patriot Class pairs a traditional bow, a slightly deeper draft and full stabilization for smoother coastal sailing with the top-deck layout American introduced on its Coastal Cats: a glass-walled Sky Lounge, a 360-degree Sky Walk track, a Sun Deck and the Back Porch Café. The Chesapeake Lounge at the bow hosts nightly entertainment, the Chart Room and Bow Terrace are quiet spots to follow the route, and the glass-enclosed Restaurant seats everyone together in open seating. Fares include meals, drinks, a daily cocktail hour, an excursion in every port, gratuities, Wi-Fi and a pre-cruise hotel night.

Through the winter of 2026 to 2027 American Pioneer sails nine-day Florida Gulf Coast & Keys cruises round trip from St. Petersburg, after a 12-day American Revolution cruise between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia in late October 2026. In May 2027 it heads north for a Cape Codder cruise from Boston, spends June to October 2027 on 16-day Grand New England cruises round trip from Boston, then finishes the season with a Northeast Harbors cruise to New York. It suits travelers who want a brand-new small ship, a big balcony stateroom and all-domestic ports.

American Pioneer questions we answer every day

How big is American Pioneer?
American Pioneer carries 130 guests in 69 staterooms across five decks, with an elevator to every deck. American Cruise Lines does not publish tonnage or length for the ship, but says its small ships are nearly 60 feet wide compared with a typical 39-foot European riverboat, which is why the staterooms start at 250 square feet. It was built in 2025 at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland.
Where does American Pioneer sail in 2026 and 2027?
After a late-October 2026 American Revolution cruise between Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, American Pioneer spends November 2026 to April 2027 on nine-day Florida Gulf Coast & Keys cruises round trip from St. Petersburg. From May 2027 it sails from Boston on Cape Codder and 16-day Grand New England cruises, ending the season with a Northeast Harbors cruise to New York in late October 2027.
What is included in the fare on American Pioneer?
American Cruise Lines fares are all-inclusive: all meals and snacks, all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, a daily cocktail hour, at least one guided excursion in every port, onboard entertainment and enrichment, gratuities, port charges, Starlink Wi-Fi and a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay with luggage service and transfer to the ship. Premium and Signature excursions cost extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where American allows it, not available when you book direct.
Which staterooms are best on American Pioneer?
Every stateroom has a private balcony, so the choice is about size and deck. Premium Balcony on deck 2 and Vista Balcony on deck 3 are both 300 square feet; deck 3 is the quieter, more central choice. Deck 4 is all suites: the 320-square-foot Veranda Suite, the 400-square-foot Sky Suite with its glass wall, and two 500-square-foot Grand Suites with a separate bedroom. Solo travelers get eight 250-square-foot Single Balcony staterooms.
What is the Patriot Class?
The Patriot Class is the second design in American Cruise Lines’ Project Blue series of U.S.-built small ships, following the four 100-guest Coastal Cats. American Patriot launched in June 2025 and American Pioneer in October 2025; American Maverick and American Ranger followed in 2026, with American Mariner and American Navigator due in 2027. The class adds a traditional bow and deeper draft for better coastal handling while keeping the top-deck Sky Lounge and walking track.
Are shore excursions included on American Pioneer?
Yes. Every port has at least one included Featured excursion, led by a local guide and accompanied by an American Cruise Lines team member, with two to four options at most stops. Premium excursions typically cost between 10 and 99 dollars per person and Signature excursions, such as small-group charters and culinary experiences, start at 100 dollars. Guests pre-reserve excursions in their online cruise portal from 60 days before departure.
