A globe-trotting Spirit Class ship: Tampa this winter, Alaska in 2027, then Hawaii from Long Beach.
Best for: Guests who want a mid-sized ship with mostly balcony rooms on a bucket-list route: a Tampa winter Caribbean cruise, Alaska from Seattle in summer 2027 or the first Carnival Hawaii cruises from Long Beach. Sails from Tampa, Seattle, Long Beach, Dover, Rome (Civitavecchia) in 2026 and 2027.
Carnival Legend is a Spirit Class ship built by Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki and in service since August 2002. At 88,500 gross tons and 963 feet she carries 2,134 guests with 930 crew on 12 decks, and the Spirit Class layout gives most staterooms an ocean view and the majority of those a balcony. A month-long refit at Chantier Naval de Marseille in spring 2024 refreshed her public rooms and added the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge and Bonsai Sushi.
Her themes run to legends and myths, from the Truffles Restaurant and the Unicorn Café buffet to Club Merlin Casino and the Medusa’s Lair dance club. Included dining covers Lido Marketplace, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina and the Carnival Deli, with Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi and the Chef’s Table as specialty choices. On top are the Camelot and Avalon pools, the Green Thunder waterslide in WaterWorks, Serenity for adults and the Cloud 9 Spa.
The schedule is the draw. After a summer 2026 season in Europe from Dover and Civitavecchia, including an 11-day eclipse cruise, Carnival Legend sails from Tampa from November 2026 to March 2027 on six- to eight-day Western Caribbean, Bahamas and Panama cruises. A 16-day Panama Canal crossing takes her to Seattle for 22 week-long Alaska cruises from April 20, 2027, and in October 2027 she moves to Long Beach for Carnival’s first 14-day Hawaii cruises plus Mexican Riviera sailings through April 2028.

Carnival Legend questions we answer every day
How big is Carnival Legend?
Carnival Legend is 88,500 gross tons and 963 feet long with 12 decks. Carnival lists her at 2,134 guests with 930 crew. She is a Spirit Class ship, long and narrow enough to fit the Panama Canal locks, which is why she can move between the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii in a single year.
Where does Carnival Legend sail in 2026 and 2027?
Summer 2026 was spent in Europe from Dover and Civitavecchia. From November 2026 to March 2027 she sails from Tampa on six- and seven-day Western Caribbean and Bahamas cruises, three eight-day Western Caribbean sailings and two eight-day Panama voyages. A Panama Canal crossing then takes her to Seattle for Alaska from April 20, 2027, and to Long Beach for Hawaii and Mexican Riviera cruises from October 2027.
What are the Hawaii cruises on Carnival Legend?
From October 2027 through April 2028 Carnival Legend sails 14-day Carnival Journeys round trip from Long Beach, California, to Honolulu, Maui, Kauai, Hilo and Kona with a call at Ensenada, Mexico. Carnival calls it its first Hawaii series, and ten sailings opened for booking. Six- and eight-day Mexican Riviera cruises to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and Ensenada fill the weeks between.
Which staterooms are the best choice on Carnival Legend?
Most outside rooms on this ship have a balcony, so a standard Balcony room is the sensible default, and for Alaska or the Panama Canal it is worth it. Extended Balcony and Aft-View Extended Balcony rooms give more outdoor space, and the Vista Suites with wraparound balconies are the ones to ask for on a scenic itinerary.
What is included in the fare on Carnival Legend?
Truffles Restaurant, the Lido buffet, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, the Carnival Deli, Swirls, Seaday Brunch, Playlist Productions, Family Feud Live, the Punchliner Comedy Club, WaterWorks, the pools and Camp Ocean are included. Fahrenheit 555, Bonsai Sushi, the Chef’s Table, the Coffee Bar, bar drinks, Wi-Fi, the casino and Cloud 9 Spa treatments are extra.
What was added in the 2024 refurbishment?
Carnival Legend spent a month at Chantier Naval de Marseille from late April 2024 and returned to service in Barcelona on May 30, 2024. The refit refreshed decor and public rooms throughout and added the Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge and a sit-down Bonsai Sushi, alongside the hull and technical work that keeps a 2002-built ship ready for Alaska and Hawaii.
