About Costa Serena

Costa Serena is a 114,147-ton Concordia Class ship that entered service in 2007 and came out of an 18-day drydock in November 2025 completely renovated, the final ship in Costa’s fleet-wide modernization program. The original Joe Farcus interiors built around the gods of Olympus were kept but reinterpreted in a lighter pop-art style, the pool decks and main restaurants were given new layouts, every stateroom was refreshed and the suites were fully rebuilt. Costa sums it up as The Myth Goes POP.

The refit brought Costa’s newest dining concepts on board: a food court anchored by Archipelago, a tasting-menu restaurant with dishes by three Michelin-starred chefs, plus Pizzeria Pummid’Oro and Sushino at Costa, the line’s sushi bistro. They join the Vesta and Ceres main dining rooms, the Prometeo buffet, nine bars and lounges led by the Apollo Grand Bar, the three-level Teatro Giove, four pools including one under a retractable roof and the two-deck, 6,000-square-meter Solemio Spa.

Costa Serena spent 2025 and early 2026 in Asia and on October 18, 2026 leaves Tokyo on a 65-night world voyage through Japan, the Pacific islands, Australia and Patagonia to Buenos Aires, with a 60-day option from Hong Kong. From December 22, 2026 it runs 3- to 9-night South America cruises from Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro, then returns to Savona in April 2027 for the Mediterranean routes once run by Costa Fortuna. It suits travelers who want an Italian-flavored big ship on long, unusual routes.

Costa Serena questions we answer every day

How big is Costa Serena?
Costa Serena is 114,147 gross tons and about 950 feet long, with roughly 1,500 staterooms, 14 guest decks and a crew of about 1,100. Costa quotes capacity at 3,012 guests after the 2025 refit. It is a Concordia Class ship, sister to Costa Pacifica, Costa Favolosa and Costa Fascinosa, and it was the last ship in Costa’s fleet modernization program.
What changed in the 2025 renovation?
In an 18-day drydock in November 2025 Costa refreshed every stateroom, rebuilt the suites, gave the pool decks and main restaurants new layouts and reworked the public rooms in a pop-art version of the original Olympian gods theme. New venues include a food court, the Archipelago restaurant with menus by three Michelin-starred chefs, Pizzeria Pummid’Oro and the Sushino at Costa sushi bistro.
Where does Costa Serena sail in 2026 and 2027?
After an Asia season it leaves Tokyo on October 18, 2026 on a 65-night world voyage to Buenos Aires via the Pacific islands, Australia and Patagonia, with a 60-day option from Hong Kong. From December 22, 2026 through March 2027 it sails 3- to 9-night South America cruises from Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro, then returns to Savona in April 2027 for Mediterranean itineraries.
Which staterooms are best on Costa Serena?
For sea-heavy itineraries like the world voyage, a Terrace with sea view balcony cabin at around 220 square feet is the sweet spot, and there are 571 of them after the refit. Spa cabins add direct access to the Solemio thermal area. The rebuilt suites come with a private butler, a reserved suite restaurant, a welcome bottle and an in-cabin whirlpool tub.
What is included in the fare on Costa Serena?
The fare covers the Vesta and Ceres dining rooms, the Prometeo buffet, theater shows, pools, the kids and teen clubs and the Technogym gym. Archipelago, Pizzeria Pummid’Oro, Sushino at Costa, Club Bacco, drinks, spa treatments and Wi-Fi are extra unless covered by a package, and Costa adds a nightly service charge. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Costa allows it, not available booking direct.
Is Costa Serena a good ship for Americans?
Costa is an Italian line with a mostly European guest mix, Italian food and multilingual announcements, so it suits travelers who enjoy that flavor. English is spoken throughout and the world voyage and South America season draw an international crowd. Expect later dinner times, a lively pool deck and shore-focused itineraries rather than a resort-style American experience.
