About Rotterdam

Rotterdam is Holland America Line’s flagship and the seventh ship to carry the name, the third and newest of the Pinnacle Class after Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam. Delivered by Fincantieri in Italy in 2021, it measures 99,836 gross tons, carries 2,668 guests at double occupancy in 1,340 staterooms and is served by a crew of about 1,048. The feel is classic Holland America: a mid-sized premium ship, spacious verandah staterooms, a two-deck Lido pool with a retractable roof and an adults-only Sea View Pool at the stern.

Entertainment is the headline. The World Stage theater wraps the audience in a 270-degree LED screen, and the Music Walk lines up Rolling Stone Lounge, Billboard Onboard and B.B. King’s Blues Club back to back. An April 2026 dry dock expanded both music lounges, added a stage in the Crow’s Nest and a bandstand at the Sea View Pool, and fitted 22 Vista Suites with sofa beds. Dining ranges from the Dining Room and Lido Market to Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, Canaletto, Sel de Mer and Morimoto By Sea.

For winter 2026 to 2027 Rotterdam sails 10 and 11 day Western, Eastern and Southern Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, including a Christmas and New Year voyage with a holiday stop at Half Moon Cay. In spring 2027 it crosses to the Netherlands for a summer of Norway, Iceland, Baltic and Northern Europe sailings from Rotterdam and Reykjavik, then makes its Mediterranean debut in fall 2027 from Barcelona and Athens before crossing back to Fort Lauderdale in December. It suits couples and mature travelers who want a polished, music-filled ship with longer itineraries.

Rotterdam questions we answer every day

How big is Rotterdam?
Rotterdam measures 99,836 gross tons and is 984 feet long with 12 guest decks. It carries 2,668 guests at double occupancy in 1,340 staterooms, with a crew of about 1,048, which gives roughly one crew member for every two and a half guests. It is the largest ship in the Holland America fleet by a small margin over its Pinnacle Class sisters Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam.
When was Rotterdam built and last refurbished?
Rotterdam was delivered by Fincantieri in July 2021 and entered service that August as the seventh Holland America ship of the name. Its most recent dry dock was in April 2026 in the Netherlands, when the Rolling Stone Lounge and Billboard Onboard were expanded, a live stage was added in the Crow’s Nest and at the Sea View Pool, 22 Vista Suites gained sofa beds, the casino grew and carpets and finishes were renewed throughout the ship.
Where does Rotterdam sail in 2026 and 2027?
In winter 2026 to 2027 Rotterdam sails 10 and 11 day Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, including a Christmas and New Year sailing. In spring 2027 it crosses to Rotterdam for a season of Norway, Iceland, Baltic and Northern Europe voyages from Rotterdam and Reykjavik. Its first Mediterranean season follows in fall 2027 with 10 and 11 day cruises between Barcelona and Athens, then a December 2027 transatlantic back to Fort Lauderdale.
Which staterooms are best on Rotterdam?
Verandah staterooms are the sweet spot for scenic itineraries such as Norway and Iceland. Families should look at the Family Ocean View staterooms with two bathrooms or the Vista Suites that now sleep four. For the most space and the Neptune Lounge with concierge service, choose a Neptune Suite or the 1,290 sq ft Pinnacle Suite. Solo travelers have dedicated Single Ocean View staterooms.
What is included in the fare on Rotterdam?
Your fare covers the Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive-In, New York Deli & Pizza and the food at the Grand Dutch Café, plus World Stage shows, the Music Walk venues, pools, fitness center and Kids Club where offered. Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind, Canaletto, Sel de Mer, Morimoto By Sea, alcoholic drinks, Wi-Fi and shore excursions are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Holland America allows it, something you will not get booking direct.
Is Rotterdam a good ship for families?
Rotterdam is primarily an adult-oriented premium ship, but it handles families well on school-holiday sailings. Kids Club programs for ages 3 to 17 run on most but not all cruises, there is a pool with a retractable roof for any weather, pickleball and a sports court, and the Family Ocean View staterooms and quad-capacity Vista Suites make it easier to keep everyone in one room.
