About Viking Mars

Viking Mars entered service in 2022 as Viking’s eighth ocean ship, named in Valletta, Malta, with Lady Fiona Carnarvon of Highclere Castle as godmother. She follows the fleet template, 47,800 gross tons, 745 feet, 930 guests in 465 staterooms with a private veranda on every one, and carries the Explorers’ Dome planetarium on the top deck facing the Explorers’ Lounge, along with the Nordic Spa, infinity pool and Scandinavian interiors shared across the fleet.

She suits adults who want the destination to be the point of the trip. There is no casino and no children’s program; days revolve around an included shore excursion in every port, lectures from a resident historian and guest speakers, classical music from the Viking Resident Musicians, afternoon tea in the Wintergarden and evenings in Torshavn. Wi-Fi, beer and wine with lunch and dinner and the alternative restaurants are part of the fare.

Through 2026 and 2027 Viking lists Viking Mars on Mediterranean itineraries of 8 to 15 days between Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia), Venice (Chioggia), Athens (Piraeus), Istanbul and Lisbon, including Mediterranean Odyssey, Ancient Adriatic Treasures and the new Spain & Portugal Discovery, and for summer 2027 on the 15-day British Isles Explorer from Bergen to London (Greenwich) and the new British Isles & Ireland voyage from London to Belfast.

  • Every one of the 465 staterooms has a private veranda
  • Explorers’ Dome planetarium on the top deck with astronomy shows and lectures
  • Adults-only ship for guests 18 and over, with no casino on board
  • The Nordic Spa with a snow grotto, sauna, thermal pool and heated loungers, open to every guest

  • Mediterranean voyages and summer 2027 British Isles sailings from Bergen, London and Belfast

Viking Mars questions we answer every day

How big is Viking Mars?
Viking Mars is 47,800 gross tons and 745 feet long, with 465 staterooms for 930 guests, every one with a private veranda. Viking classes her as a small ship, and her size lets her dock in the center of ports that bigger ships cannot reach. She entered service in 2022 as Viking’s eighth ocean ship and shares her layout with the rest of the ocean fleet.
Is Viking Mars adults only?
Yes. All guests on Viking ocean ships must be 18 or older on the day they embark, and there are no facilities or programs for children. There is also no casino. The public rooms are given over to lounges, a library, lectures, classical music, the planetarium and the Nordic Spa rather than arcades and kids clubs, which keeps the ship quiet day and night.
What is included in the Viking Mars fare?
Viking includes one shore excursion in every port, Wi-Fi, all onboard meals including Manfredi’s and The Chef’s Table, beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, specialty coffees and teas around the clock, 24-hour room service, access to the Nordic Spa thermal suite and fitness center, lectures and Destination Performances, self-service launderettes and port taxes and fees. Airfare, spa treatments, the Silver Spirits beverage package and The Kitchen Table are extra.
Which stateroom is the best choice on Viking Mars?
Every stateroom has a veranda, so the differences are space and priority. Veranda and Deluxe Veranda rooms are 270 square feet and suit most couples; Deluxe earns earlier booking windows for excursions, restaurants and the spa. Penthouse Veranda rooms add a sitting area at 338 square feet, and Explorer Suites give you a separate living room, with the aft suites getting wraparound verandas over the wake.
Where does Viking Mars sail in 2026 and 2027?
Viking lists her on Mediterranean voyages of 8 to 15 days between Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia), Venice (Chioggia), Athens (Piraeus), Istanbul and Lisbon, including Iconic Western Mediterranean, Italian Sojourn, Mediterranean Odyssey, Ancient Adriatic Treasures and the new Spain & Portugal Discovery. For summer 2027 she sails the 15-day British Isles Explorer from Bergen to London and the new British Isles & Ireland voyage from London to Belfast.
Does Viking Mars have a planetarium?
Yes. The Explorers’ Dome is a small domed theater forward on the top deck, facing the Explorers’ Lounge, that shows astronomy and exploration films on its ceiling. A resident astronomer gives lectures and leads stargazing from the deck when conditions allow, and the shows are included. It is a sea-day favorite and fits the exploration theme that runs through the ship’s art and library.
