About Viking Sea

Viking Sea joined the fleet in 2016 as Viking’s second ocean ship and was named on the Thames at Greenwich, London. She is an identical sister to Viking Star: 47,800 gross tons, 745 feet long, 930 guests in 465 staterooms, every one with a private veranda. Viking classes her as a small ship, so she docks in the heart of ports that larger vessels have to tender into or miss entirely.

The ship is for adults who treat a cruise as a way to see places rather than a floating resort. There is no casino and no children’s program. In their place are guest lecturers and a resident historian, Viking Resident Musicians playing classical music in The Living Room, the Nordic Spa with its snow grotto and thermal pool, and an infinity pool off the Aquavit Terrace. One shore excursion in every port, Wi-Fi, beer and wine with meals and the alternative restaurants are included.

Through 2026 and 2027 Viking lists Viking Sea on 8- to 15-day Mediterranean voyages between Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia), Venice (Chioggia), Athens (Piraeus), Istanbul and Lisbon, including the new Spain & Portugal Discovery itinerary. Published schedules also show her spending the winter of 2026-2027 on round-trip Caribbean cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with transatlantic crossings either side, and a run of summer 2027 sailings around Iceland from Reykjavik.

  • Every one of the 465 staterooms has a private veranda
  • Adults-only ship for guests 18 and over, with no casino on board
  • The Nordic Spa with a snow grotto, sauna, thermal pool and heated loungers, open to every guest
  • Infinity pool off the Aquavit Terrace and a Main Pool with a retractable roof
  • Explorers’ Lounge with two-story windows over the bow, home to Mamsen’s Norwegian deli
  • One included shore excursion in every port of call
  • Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant and The Chef’s Table at no extra charge
  • Winter Caribbean season from San Juan as well as Mediterranean and Iceland sailings

Viking Sea questions we answer every day

How big is Viking Sea?
Viking Sea is 47,800 gross tons and 745 feet long, with 465 staterooms for 930 guests, every one with a private veranda. Viking classes her as a small ship, and her draft and size let her dock in the center of ports that bigger ships cannot reach. She entered service in 2016 as Viking’s second ocean ship and shares her layout with Viking Star and the rest of the ocean fleet.
Is Viking Sea adults only?
Yes. All guests on Viking ocean ships must be 18 or older on the day they embark, and there are no facilities or programs for children. There is also no casino. The public rooms are given over to lounges, a library, lectures, classical music and the Nordic Spa rather than arcades and kids clubs, which keeps the ship quiet day and night.
What is included in the Viking Sea fare?
Viking includes one shore excursion in every port, Wi-Fi, all onboard meals including Manfredi’s and The Chef’s Table, beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, specialty coffees and teas around the clock, 24-hour room service, access to the Nordic Spa thermal suite and fitness center, lectures and Destination Performances, self-service launderettes and port taxes and fees. Airfare, spa treatments, the Silver Spirits beverage package and The Kitchen Table are extra.
Which stateroom is the best choice on Viking Sea?
Every stateroom has a veranda, so the differences are space and priority. Veranda and Deluxe Veranda rooms are 270 square feet and suit most couples; Deluxe earns earlier booking windows for excursions, restaurants and the spa. Penthouse Veranda rooms add a sitting area at 338 square feet, and Explorer Suites give you a separate living room, with the aft suites getting wraparound verandas over the wake.
Where does Viking Sea sail in 2026 and 2027?
Viking lists her on Mediterranean voyages of 8 to 15 days between Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia), Venice (Chioggia), Athens (Piraeus), Istanbul and Lisbon, among them Iconic Western Mediterranean, Italian Sojourn, Greek Odyssey and the new Spain & Portugal Discovery. Published schedules also show a winter 2026-2027 season of round-trip Caribbean cruises from San Juan and summer 2027 round trips from Reykjavik around Iceland.
Does Viking Sea sail the Caribbean?
Yes. Published schedules show Viking Sea crossing the Atlantic in late October 2026 and then sailing a series of roughly 10-day round-trip West Indies cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico, through early March 2027 before returning to the Mediterranean. For a Caribbean cruise this is Viking’s formula at its most relaxed: an adults-only ship, an included excursion on each island and the Nordic Spa for sea days.
