Japan-built and Yokohama-based, with the Izumi Japanese Bath and Kai Sushi.
Best for: Travelers who want to see Japan, Korea and Taiwan in depth from a Yokohama homeport on an English-speaking ship with authentic Japanese touches. Sails from Yokohama (Tokyo), Singapore in 2026 and 2027.
Diamond Princess is a Grand Class ship built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki and in service since March 2004, the only Princess ship built in Japan. At 115,875 gross tons she is the heaviest Grand Class ship yet carries 2,706 guests at double occupancy in 1,337 staterooms across 18 decks. A major 2014 refit tailored her to the Japanese market with the Izumi Japanese Bath, Kai Sushi and a reworked buffet, with further updates in 2019 and a routine dry dock in Singapore in early 2024.
Izumi is modeled on a traditional onsen with indoor and outdoor bathing, steam rooms, saunas and ocean-view hot tubs, and Princess calls it the largest Japanese bath of its kind at sea. Five main dining rooms, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet, Trident Grill, Prego Pizzeria and Swirls ice cream are included, while Makoto Ocean, Kai Sushi, Sabatini’s, the Churrascaria Brazilian Grill and the Chef’s Table are the specialty venues. Movies Under the Stars, the Sanctuary and the Lotus Spa complete the picture.
For 2026 and 2027 Diamond Princess splits the year between Japan and Southeast Asia. From Yokohama she sails Japan Explorer, Kyushu and Korea, Golden Week Southern Islands and Grand Circle Japan itineraries of 7 to 28 days, including fall foliage cruises. From November 2026 to March 2027 she homeports in Singapore for 11 cruises to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, then returns to Yokohama in March 2027 for Princess’s largest Japan season alongside Sapphire Princess. She suits travelers who want Japan in depth on an English-speaking ship.

Diamond Princess questions we answer every day
How big is Diamond Princess?
Diamond Princess is 115,875 gross tons and 952 feet long with 18 decks. She carries 2,706 guests at double occupancy in 1,337 staterooms, with a crew of about 1,100. She is the heaviest ship in the Grand Class but carries fewer guests than Caribbean, Crown or Ruby Princess, which gives her a roomy feel.
Where does Diamond Princess sail in 2026 and 2027?
She sails from Yokohama near Tokyo for most of the year on Japan Explorer, Kyushu and Korea, Golden Week Southern Islands and Grand Circle Japan cruises of 7 to 28 days, with fall foliage sailings in October and November. From November 2026 to March 2027 she homeports in Singapore for 11 Southeast Asia cruises to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, returning to Yokohama in March 2027.
What is the Izumi Japanese Bath?
Izumi is an onsen-style bathing complex added in the 2014 refit, with indoor and outdoor pools, steam rooms, saunas and ocean-view hot tubs, and Princess says it is the largest Japanese bath of its kind at sea. Men and women have separate facilities, with one mixed outdoor hot tub where swimsuits are required. Entry is by day or cruise pass for an additional charge.
Which staterooms are best on Diamond Princess?
A Balcony stateroom is the right choice for Japan’s coastal scenery and sail-ins, and about three quarters of outside cabins have one. Mini-Suites at about 323 sq ft add a sitting area and a tub, and the Reserve Collection Mini-Suites include their own dining section with dedicated waitstaff. Check the deck plan for obstructed Oceanview cabins before booking.
What is included in the fare on Diamond Princess?
The five main dining rooms, World Fresh Marketplace, Trident Grill, Prego Pizzeria, Swirls ice cream, La Patisserie, theater shows, Movies Under the Stars, pools and the youth centers are included. Specialty restaurants such as Makoto Ocean and Kai Sushi, the Izumi bath, drinks, Wi-Fi and crew appreciation are extra unless you add a Princess Plus or Premier package. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Princess allows it, which you will not get booking direct.
When was Diamond Princess last refurbished?
Diamond Princess had a routine dry dock at Sembcorp Marine in Singapore in January and February 2024. Her 2019 dry dock updated the casino, Lotus Spa fitness equipment and added Japanese bidets, and the major 2014 refit created the Izumi Japanese Bath, Kai Sushi and a redesigned buffet to suit the Japanese market.
