The original Grand Class ship, Princess’s year-round Australia ship from late 2026.
Best for: Australian and New Zealand cruisers who want a Princess ship close to home all year, and long-voyage enthusiasts booking the 2027 Circle Pacific. Sails from Sydney, Brisbane, Fremantle (Perth), Auckland in 2026 and 2027.
Grand Princess is the ship that started the Grand Class in May 1998, christened by Olivia de Havilland and the largest cruise ship in the world at her debut. At 107,517 gross tons she carries 2,600 guests at double occupancy in 1,301 staterooms across 17 decks, a size that today feels mid-sized and easy to navigate. A 2011 refit added the three-deck Piazza, seven Window Suites and a remodeled casino, and the ship had a routine dry dock in Portland, Oregon in April 2025.
Included dining covers the Botticelli, Da Vinci and Michelangelo dining rooms, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet, the 24-hour International Café, Slice and The Salty Dog Grill. Crown Grill steakhouse, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, Alfredo’s Pizzeria, the Chef’s Table and The Salty Dog Gastropub are the specialty options. The One5 after-hours dance club, the Vista Lounge, Movies Under the Stars and the adults-only Sanctuary round out the ship.
From November 2026 Grand Princess becomes Princess’s year-round Australia and New Zealand ship, starting with nine cruises from Sydney before moving to Brisbane in December. The 2026 to 2027 program includes Queensland and Tasmania cruises from Sydney and Brisbane, Southern Explorer and Northern Explorer voyages from Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle, and a 79-night Circle Pacific voyage from Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland in June 2027 calling at Hong Kong, Japan, Alaska, Los Angeles, Hawaii and Tahiti. She suits Australian cruisers and North Americans booking a long Pacific voyage.

Grand Princess questions we answer every day
How big is Grand Princess?
Grand Princess is 107,517 gross tons and 949 feet long with 17 decks. She carries 2,600 guests at double occupancy in 1,301 staterooms, with a crew of about 1,150. She was the largest cruise ship in the world when she debuted in 1998 and remains a comfortable mid-sized ship by today’s standards, with fewer guests than her younger Grand Class sisters.
Where does Grand Princess sail in 2026 and 2027?
From November 2026 she sails year-round from Australia and New Zealand, starting with nine cruises from Sydney and then homeporting in Brisbane from December. The season includes short Queensland and Tasmania cruises, Southern Explorer voyages from Sydney and Fremantle, Northern Explorer voyages to Darwin and Broome, and a 79-night Circle Pacific voyage departing Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland in June 2027 that calls at Hong Kong, Osaka, Juneau, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Papeete.
When was Grand Princess last refurbished?
Grand Princess had a routine dry dock at the Vigor shipyard in Portland, Oregon in April 2025 with class inspections and minor updates to public areas and staterooms. Her last major transformation was a 24-day refit in 2011 that added the three-deck Piazza, seven Window Suites, a remodeled casino, new boutiques and an art gallery, and removed the original Skywalkers nightclub from the stern.
Which staterooms are best on Grand Princess?
A Balcony stateroom suits the Australian coastline and the South Pacific, and the ship has around 500 of them plus 180 Mini-Suites. For the Circle Pacific or any long voyage a Mini-Suite or Suite earns its keep with the extra sitting area, and the Reserve Collection and full Suites include their own section of the dining room with dedicated waitstaff.
What is included in the fare on Grand Princess?
The three main dining rooms, World Fresh Marketplace, International Café, Slice, The Salty Dog Grill, Coffee & Cones ice cream, afternoon tea, theater shows, Movies Under the Stars, pools and the youth centers are included. Specialty restaurants, drinks, Wi-Fi and crew appreciation are extra unless you add a Princess Plus or Premier package. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Princess allows it, something you will not get booking direct.
Is Grand Princess a good ship for a first cruise in Australia?
Yes. She is mid-sized, easy to learn in a day and sails from Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle, so most Australians can board without a flight. The short Queensland and Tasmania cruises are a low-commitment way to try cruising, and the full Princess product of dining rooms, Movies Under the Stars, the Sanctuary and the Lotus Spa is all on board.
