Refreshed in 2025 with Makoto Ocean and Crown Grill; Singapore and Japan in 2026-2027.
Best for: Travelers who want Southeast Asia or Japan from a convenient Singapore or Yokohama homeport, with more specialty dining choice than any other older Princess ship. Sails from Singapore, Yokohama (Tokyo), Fremantle (Perth) in 2026 and 2027.
Sapphire Princess is a Grand Class ship and the sister of Diamond Princess, built in Nagasaki, Japan and in service since May 2004. At 115,875 gross tons she carries 2,670 guests at double occupancy in 1,337 staterooms across 18 decks, with about 750 private balconies. A two-week dry dock at Vigor Marine in Portland, Oregon in October 2025 refreshed the interiors and added two specialty restaurants: Makoto Ocean on Deck 7 and Crown Grill on Deck 5.
Included dining covers four main dining rooms, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet, the 24-hour International Café, Trident Grill, Prego Pizzeria and Swirls. The specialty lineup is unusually deep for an older Princess ship: Crown Grill steakhouse, Makoto Ocean sushi, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, the Churrascaria Brazilian Grill, Alfredo’s Pizzeria and the Chef’s Table. Movies Under the Stars, the adults-only Sanctuary, the Lotus Spa and the Lawn Court lawn games complete the ship.
After a 2026 of Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Canada and New England cruises, Sapphire Princess sails to Singapore for winter 2026 to 2027, where she joins Diamond Princess for 18 Southeast Asia and Far East cruises including Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year sailings to Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. In March 2027 she moves to Yokohama for Princess’s largest ever Japan season through December 2027, and a Fremantle, Western Australia season follows for 2027 to 2028. She suits travelers who want Asia on a well-fed, mid-sized ship.

Families and who it suits
Princess youth centers run by age: The Treehouse for ages 3 to 7, The Lodge for 8 to 12 and The Beach House teen lounge for 13 to 17, all included. Family staterooms sleep up to four and Two Bedroom Family Suites sleep up to eight; the Singapore holiday sailings over Christmas and Chinese New Year carry the most families.
Best for: Travelers who want Southeast Asia or Japan from a convenient Singapore or Yokohama homeport, with more specialty dining choice than any other older Princess ship.
Sapphire Princess is 115,875 gross tons and 952 feet long with 18 decks. She carries 2,670 guests at double occupancy in 1,337 staterooms, with a crew of about 1,100. She is a twin of Diamond Princess and, like her sister, carries fewer guests than the other Grand Class ships of similar size.
What is new on Sapphire Princess after the 2025 dry dock?
The October 2025 dry dock in Portland, Oregon added Makoto Ocean, Chef Makoto Okuwa’s sushi restaurant from Sun Princess and Star Princess, in place of the Internet Café on Deck 7, and a Crown Grill steakhouse in the former Savoy Dining Room on Deck 5. Both opened in November 2025 and are specialty venues for an additional charge, included in the Princess Premier package allowance.
Where does Sapphire Princess sail in 2026 and 2027?
In 2026 she sails the Mediterranean from Rome in spring, Northern Europe from Copenhagen in summer and Canada and New England in fall, then heads to Singapore for winter 2026 to 2027 with 18 Southeast Asia and Far East cruises to Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, including Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year sailings. From March to December 2027 she sails from Yokohama on Japan itineraries, followed by a Fremantle season in 2027 to 2028.
Which staterooms are best on Sapphire Princess?
A Balcony stateroom is worth it for Japan’s coastline and the Southeast Asian port arrivals, and the ship has about 520 of them plus 186 Mini-Suites. The Reserve Collection Mini-Suites include their own dining section with dedicated waitstaff, and full Suites add a mini-bar, laundry and priority tendering. Avoid Oceanview cabins marked obstructed on the deck plan if the view matters.
What is included in the fare on Sapphire Princess?
The four main dining rooms, World Fresh Marketplace, International Café, Trident Grill, Prego Pizzeria, Swirls ice cream, theater shows, Movies Under the Stars, pools and the youth centers are included. Specialty restaurants, drinks, Wi-Fi and crew appreciation are extra unless you add a Princess Plus or Premier package. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Princess allows it, something you will not get booking direct.
Is Sapphire Princess the same as Diamond Princess?
They are sister ships built in the same Nagasaki yard in 2004 with the same hull and layout, but they differ in detail. Diamond Princess was converted for the Japanese market with the Izumi Japanese Bath and Kai Sushi, while Sapphire Princess has the Lawn Court, Alfredo’s Pizzeria and, since 2025, Crown Grill and Makoto Ocean. In 2027 both sail from Yokohama, so compare itineraries first and ship second.
