About Ruby Princess

Ruby Princess is a Crown Class ship that entered service in November 2008 and has become the Princess ship Northern California knows best. At 113,561 gross tons she carries 3,080 guests at double occupancy in 1,542 staterooms, nearly 900 of them with private balconies. The three-deck Piazza, the poolside Movies Under the Stars screen and the adults-only Sanctuary set the relaxed, grown-up tone that Princess is known for, and the ship was most recently refreshed in 2023.

Dining is a strength. Three main dining rooms, the 24-hour International Café, the World Fresh Marketplace buffet, Slice pizzeria, The Salty Dog Grill and Coffee & Cones are all included in the fare. Crown Grill steakhouse, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, the Chef’s Table and The Salty Dog Gastropub are the specialty options for an additional charge. Princess MedallionClass technology handles keyless stateroom entry, OceanNow delivery anywhere on board and finding your travel companions.

For 2026 and 2027 Ruby Princess sails year-round from San Francisco: 10-day Inside Passage cruises to Alaska with Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier or Glacier Bay each summer, then a winter program of 7-day Classic California Coast cruises, 10-day Mexican Riviera voyages, 16-day Hawaii round trips and 7-day Pacific Northwest sailings. She suits Bay Area and Northern California cruisers who want to drive to the pier, couples and retirees who like a traditional cruise, and Alaska first-timers.

Staterooms and suites

Interior

Approximately 158 to 162 sq ft with two twin beds or a queen, a refrigerator, TV and shower bathroom, with third and fourth berths in select cabins. Princess calls it the most affordable option, and it suits guests who will be out on deck for the Alaska scenery or the California coastline all day.

Oceanview

Approximately 146 to 206 sq ft with a picture window or porthole and the same amenities as an interior; Princess notes that some views are partially or fully obstructed, so check the deck plan before you choose a cabin.

Balcony

Approximately 214 to 222 sq ft including the balcony, with two chairs and a table outside. Ruby Princess has nearly 900 balconies and Princess markets this category as a front row seat for the scenery, which is exactly what it is on an Inside Passage cruise.

Mini-Suite and Reserve Collection Mini-Suite

Approximately 323 sq ft including the balcony, with a separate sitting area, sofa bed, two TVs and a tub with massage showerhead; a few have windows instead of balconies. Reserve Collection Mini-Suites add nightly Reserve Collection dining in a dedicated section of the main dining room, priority disembarkation and a one-time wine setup.

Suites

Full Suites run approximately 460 to 932 sq ft including the balcony, with a separate sitting area, sofa bed, tub and shower, complimentary mini-bar setup and laundry, Reserve Collection dining and priority tender disembarkation. Two Bedroom Family Suites sleep up to eight with two bathrooms. Ruby Princess does not carry the Sanctuary Collection, which is on Sun Princess and Star Princess only.

Ruby Princess questions we answer every day

How big is Ruby Princess?
Ruby Princess is 113,561 gross tons and 951 feet long with 19 decks. She carries 3,080 guests at double occupancy in 1,542 staterooms, with a crew of about 1,200. That puts her in the middle of the Princess fleet: larger than the Coral Class ships but smaller than the Royal Class and the new Sphere Class ships like Sun Princess.
Where does Ruby Princess sail in 2026 and 2027?
Ruby Princess sails round trip from San Francisco all year. Summers are 10-day Inside Passage cruises to Alaska with Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier or Glacier Bay. In fall and winter she runs 7-day Classic California Coast cruises calling at Los Angeles, San Diego, Ensenada and Catalina Island, 10-day Mexican Riviera cruises, 16-day Hawaii round trips and 7-day Pacific Northwest sailings to Victoria, Vancouver and Seattle.
Which staterooms are best on Ruby Princess?
For Alaska a Balcony stateroom is worth it, and Ruby Princess has nearly 900 of them. Mini-Suites at about 323 sq ft add a sitting area and tub for little more, and the Reserve Collection Mini-Suites include their own dining section in the main dining room. Avoid Oceanview cabins marked obstructed on the deck plan if the view matters to you.
What is included in the fare on Ruby Princess?
The three main dining rooms, World Fresh Marketplace buffet, International Café, Slice, The Salty Dog Grill, Coffee & Cones ice cream, theater shows, Movies Under the Stars, pools and the youth centers are all included. Specialty restaurants, drinks, Wi-Fi and crew appreciation are extra unless you add a Princess Plus or Premier package. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Princess allows it, which you will not get booking direct.
When was Ruby Princess last refurbished?
Princess lists Ruby Princess as last refurbished in 2023, following an earlier 2018 dry dock that added Slice Pizzeria and The Salty Dog Grill. The ship was converted to MedallionClass in 2020, so you get the Medallion wearable for keyless entry, OceanNow delivery and easy wayfinding on board.
Is Ruby Princess good for families?
Yes, with the caveat that Princess is a calmer product than the mega-ship lines. Kids get The Treehouse, The Lodge and The Beach House teen center, Movies Under the Stars and the pools, and family staterooms and Two Bedroom Family Suites keep everyone together. The California Coast and Mexican Riviera cruises in school-holiday weeks are the most family-heavy sailings.
