About Serenade of the Seas

Serenade of the Seas entered service in August 2003 as the third Radiance Class ship and was christened by Whoopi Goldberg. At 90,090 gross tons and 962 feet she carries about 2,143 guests at double occupancy, a comfortable mid-size for scenic cruising. Like her sisters she is wrapped in glass, with a sea-facing Centrum, glass elevators, a Viking Crown Lounge above the pool deck and a Solarium under a retractable roof, which makes her a natural fit for Alaska and the Mexican coast.

Her 2012 revitalization added Chops Grille, Giovanni’s, Izumi, Park Café, Chef’s Table, the R Bar, Vintages, an English pub, a poolside movie screen, a nursery and flat-screen TVs in every room. Drydocks in 2022 and March 2025 renewed the pool deck, public-area carpets and furnishings. In 2023 and 2024 she sailed Royal Caribbean’s 274-night Ultimate World Cruise, a sign of how well the ship handles long, port-intensive itineraries.

Serenade is Royal Caribbean’s only ship homeported in San Diego for 2026 to 2027. From October 2026 to April 2027 she sails three- to seven-night Mexican Riviera and Baja cruises to Ensenada, Catalina Island, Cabo San Lucas and La Paz, a new port for the line. Summers are spent on seven-night Alaska Inside Passage cruises from Vancouver calling at Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan. From October 2027 she moves to Tampa.

  • Rock climbing wall about 40 feet tall with views over the wake
  • Fairways of Serenade nine-hole miniature golf course
  • Adults-only Solarium pool with retractable glass roof
  • Acres of glass in the Centrum, lounges and Viking Crown Lounge for scenic cruising
  • Only Royal Caribbean ship sailing from San Diego in 2026 to 2027
  • Poolside outdoor movie screen
  • Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center
  • Tropical Theater production shows and Centrum aerial acts

Serenade of the Seas questions we answer every day

How big is Serenade of the Seas?
Serenade of the Seas is 90,090 gross tons and 962 feet long with 12 guest decks, carrying about 2,143 guests at double occupancy. She is a mid-size ship with a theater, casino, two pools, a rock wall and mini golf, and her size lets her reach ports such as Catalina Island and the smaller Alaska stops that larger ships cannot.
Who is Serenade of the Seas best for?
She suits couples, scenery lovers and families based in California, Arizona and the Pacific Northwest who want short Mexican Riviera breaks or a classic Inside Passage cruise. Adults appreciate the Solarium and glass-walled lounges; children have Adventure Ocean and the nursery. Thrill seekers who want waterslides should look at a larger ship.
What are the best staterooms on Serenade of the Seas?
For Alaska, a balcony pays off on glacier and Inside Passage days, and Spacious Balcony rooms give extra interior space. Ultra Spacious Ocean View rooms are a smart family choice without a balcony. Solo travelers have three Studio Interior rooms. Junior Suites and above add Concierge Club access and priority boarding.
What is included in the cruise fare?
The fare covers your stateroom, Reflections dining room, Windjammer buffet, Park Café, production shows, Centrum entertainment, pools, rock wall, mini golf, fitness center and Adventure Ocean. Specialty dining, drinks packages, spa and shore excursions are extra. On sailings where Royal Caribbean allows it, SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit that is not available when booking direct.
Where does Serenade of the Seas sail in 2026 and 2027?
From October 2026 to April 2027 she sails from San Diego on three- to seven-night Mexican Riviera and Baja cruises to Ensenada, Catalina Island, Cabo San Lucas and La Paz. In May 2027 she repositions to Vancouver for seven-night Alaska Inside Passage cruises to Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan, then moves to Tampa in October 2027.
When was Serenade of the Seas last refurbished?
Her major revitalization in 2012 added the specialty restaurants, R Bar, Vintages, an English pub, a poolside movie screen, a nursery and new lounges. A 2022 drydock renewed the pool deck and recarpeted public rooms ahead of the Ultimate World Cruise, and a March 2025 drydock in Freeport handled technical work and further interior updates.
