About Spectrum of the Seas

Spectrum of the Seas launched in April 2019 as the first Quantum Ultra Class ship, an evolution of Quantum Class designed for the China and Asia market. At 169,379 gross tons with 2,137 staterooms and 4,246 guests at double occupancy, it carries the class signatures, the North Star capsule, RipCord by iFLY skydiving, the SeaPlex arena and the Two70 showroom, and adds the Sky Pad bungee-trampoline dome, a private Suite Club enclave and a two-level Ultimate Family Suite with an in-suite slide.

Dining is tailored to the region. Specialty venues include Sichuan Red, Wonderland by DaDong, The Hot Pot, Teppanyaki, Izumi, Jamie’s Italian and Chops Grille, while the included options run from the Main Dining Room and Windjammer to a Noodle Bar and Star Sky Sea Dining. Mandarin is the primary language onboard, with English spoken by staff, and the Golden Room casino lounge, Star Moment karaoke and the Royal Theater keep evenings busy.

Spectrum sails year round in Asia for 2026 and 2027 from two homeports. From Shanghai it runs 2 to 9 night cruises to Japan and South Korea, including new 8 night sailings to Mount Fuji and Nagoya, and from Hong Kong in winter it sails 2 to 9 night itineraries to Japan, Korea and Vietnam including Da Nang. It suits adventurous North American cruisers who want to see Japan by ship on a modern, large Royal Caribbean vessel.

Spectrum of the Seas questions we answer every day

How big is Spectrum of the Seas?
Spectrum of the Seas is 169,379 gross tons and 1,139 feet long with 14 guest decks out of 16 total. It carries 4,246 guests at double occupancy in 2,137 staterooms, with a crew of about 1,551. As the first Quantum Ultra Class ship it is slightly larger than Quantum, Anthem and Ovation of the Seas.
Where does Spectrum of the Seas sail in 2026 and 2027?
Spectrum sails year round in Asia. From Shanghai it offers 2 to 9 night cruises to Japanese ports such as Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Okinawa, Kobe, Nagoya and Tokyo and to Busan and Jeju in South Korea, with 8 night Mount Fuji sailings in 2026. From Hong Kong in winter 2026 to 2027 it sails 2 to 9 night cruises to Japan, Korea and Vietnam.
Is Spectrum of the Seas suitable for English-speaking guests?
Yes, with some adjustments. The ship was designed for the China market, so Mandarin is the primary onboard language and the entertainment and dining lean Asian, but English is spoken by staff and signage is bilingual. Western favorites such as Jamie’s Italian, Chops Grille and the Main Dining Room are all onboard, and many North American cruisers choose it specifically to see Japan.
What makes Quantum Ultra Class different from Quantum Class?
Quantum Ultra ships are slightly larger and reconfigured for Asia. Spectrum adds the Sky Pad bungee-trampoline dome, a private Suite Club enclave at the front of the ship with Silver and Golden suite tiers, a two-level Ultimate Family Suite, more balcony cabins and regionally tailored restaurants such as Sichuan Red, The Hot Pot and Wonderland by DaDong, alongside the North Star, iFLY and SeaPlex.
Which staterooms are best on Spectrum of the Seas?
Balcony staterooms are plentiful and good value for port-intensive Japan itineraries. Interior rooms with virtual balconies are a solid budget pick. For a suite, choose a Golden Suite or Sky and Star Class category to get the Suite Club restaurant, lounges, private Solarium and The Balcony sunset deck. Large families should ask about the Ultimate Family Suite.
What is included in the fare on Spectrum of the Seas?
The Main Dining Room, Windjammer, Noodle Bar, Star Sky Sea Dining, Café @ Two70, Sorrento’s and the SeaPlex Dog House are included, as are the shows, North Star on most sailings, FlowRider, SeaPlex, Sky Pad, Splashaway Bay and Adventure Ocean. Specialty restaurants, alcohol and Wi-Fi are extra. SmartCruiser adds bonus onboard credit on sailings where Royal Caribbean allows it, not available booking direct.
